A Welsh miners’ group and a number of gay rights campaigners who inspired the film ‘Pride’, will reunite.

The revived Neath, Dulais and Swansea Valley Miners’ Support Group will soon be reunited with the Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners group.

During the 1984-85 miners’ strike, the two groups formed an alliance, and their campaign was the subject of the Bafta-winning film ‘Pride’.

They will get together at a reuinion on 14 March at the Onllwyn Miners’ Welfare Hall. The date marks the 30th anniversary of the end of the strike.

Labour’s Swansea East MP Sian James, who is portrayed in the film, will be the secretary of the revived organisation, and says she wants to bring back grassroots activism.

She told BBC Radio Wales: “The evening will be an opportunity to bring together those who supported us during the strike of 1984/1985 and celebrate the solidarity and achievements of the support group during this period of our local history.”

To celebrate the film’s DVD release, PinkNews teamed up with the producers of ‘Pride’ to offer readers the chance to win a copy of the film poster signed by cast members. Enter here!
