American football star Michael Sam has mocked a showbiz reporter – by giving him fake details about his wedding to his partner… based on Game of Thrones.

Sam – who has had brief spells with the St Louis Rams and the Dallas Cowboys – made history as the first openly gay NFL player, though he is yet to play an on-season game.

He got engaged to Vito Cammisano last month, during a trip to Italy – but the pair are yet to reveal wedding plans.

When an overbearing reporter shouted questions to the player about his engagement, Sam decided to get revenge by drawing details from George RR Martin’s novels.

He said: “I plan on getting married in Westeros.

Responding to the baffled reporter, he said: “Westeros. It’s where the Iron Throne is.

“I don’t really know where it is, but that’s where I want to go, that’s where Vito wants to go.

“Hopefully Danearys gets her ass there real soon, it’s been six books and she’s not in Westeros. Hopefully she gets there soon.”

Both Sam and Cammisano struggle to contain their laughter when the reporter asks: “Is this in Greece? It sounds like a Greek thing.”

When the pap asks if Oprah Winfrey will be invited to the wedding, Sam responds: “No, but Tyrion and Tommen Lannister are”, before adding he will register for gifts in “King’s Landing”.

Given the poor success rate of weddings in Westeros, however, the pair might be better off registering somewhere in the United States.

Sam continued: “Hopefully it will not be like the Red Wedding though. I’ll be very upset if it’s like the Red Wedding.

“I’d be very upset… it better not be.”
