Google bans explicit photos from public Blogger sites

Users of the Google blogging platform Blogger, have been warned that they must remove explicit photos from their pages.

The new rules, announced with just one month to go until the take effect, mean users of the blogging platform must remove all “sexually explicit or graphic nude images or video” by 23 March, or their blogs will be made private.

Private Blogger pages are only visible to page admins and those who have had the page shared with them.

Google assured users that the majority of bloggers will see no difference from the new rules, but the move has been criticised by some who suggest that Google should choose whether freedom of expression will be allowed on the site.

Previously, blogs with adult content were allowed by Blogger, but ” All blogs marked as ‘adult’ will be placed behind an ‘adult content’ warning interstitial.”

Google has said there will be a few exceptions “if the content offers a substantial public benefit, for example in artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific contexts.”

Users who wish to migrate to other blogging platforms have been provided with information on how to do so by Google.
