Sam Smith has joked that he needs a boyfriend to clean his four Grammys.

The singer came out in May last year, when he revealed that his album In the Lonely Hour was about a man he fell in love with.

At last night’s Grammy Awards, he walked away with Song and Record of the Year for ‘Stay With Me’, Best New Artist, and Best Pop Vocal Album.

When asked what could be better than his win, Smith said: “A boyfriend would be nice, but I don’t think it would top this though. Nothing. That’s the curse of the rest of my life, I think.

Of what he looks for in a man, he gestured to his awards and said: “Patience… and someone who can clean these every day for me.

“I do not know what I’m looking for, and the moment I start looking it’s not going to come my way.

“I’m just looking for some crazy love story.”

Smith last week revealed the new video for his song ‘Lay Me Down’ which he has dedicated to the hope that “one day gay men and women and trans men and women all over the world will be able to get married.”

In the video, Smith, who recently split up with Jonathan Zeizel two weeks after going public with their relationship, gets married in a church setting as dozens look on.

Last month he found himself in the sights of Howard Stern, who said he looks “fat”, “ugly”, and “looks gay”.

Speaking to Rolling Stone last week, Smith said he will “never” play a gig in Russia – because of the country’s anti-gay laws.
