Openly gay Westlife singer Mark Feehily has embarked on a new business venture – setting up his own catering van.

The former boyband member – who raked in a string of hits before the band split up in 2012 – revealed he is now running a catering van, selling crepes and coffees.

The 34-year-old insisted the career move was a “side project”, adding: “People were flabbergasted that I was in the van making crepes…but its my business and I love it. I cannot not be involved.

“People kind of have this thing ‘oh, he was in Westlife a few years ago and now he’s making tea’.

“I’m not going to be in the van all the time but it’s exciting, I love it….so why not.”

However, the star said he had not given up on his dreams of a music career, and is planning to release more solo music.

He said: “Everyone just thinks I went back into the living room and sat down for two years but not  too long after Westlife finished I went back in the studio.

“I decided to start from scratch and just start writing the type of songs that my voice naturally sings by itself. Everything is put together for me as a solo artist.

“It’s exciting to be able to go into the studio with no rule box and no formua… its kind of living on the edge much more and I’m willing to accept that some people may not like it.”
Mr Feehily first came out when he announced he was dating Kevin McDaid in 2005, after seven years of hiding his sexuality in the public eye.

McDaid and Feehily later got engaged – but the pair split up in 2011.

The singer previously paid tribute to late Boyzone singer Stephen Gately, saying: “He was the first member of a boyband to come out, and, in hindsight, it helped me and probably lots of other gay lads to understand their sexuality and come out.”

Feehily announced his engagement in 2010 on Twitter.

The star and his boyfriend Kevin McDaid got engaged on their fifth anniversary.
