Looking for a way to support a charity whilst having fun? Tickets are still available for the Kaleidoscope Trust’s annual dinner.

The Kaleidoscope Trust is a UK charity that works to uphold the human rights of LGBT people globally. Our Annual Gala Dinner is a tent pole fundraising event, funding much of the Trust’s work. A high profile and glamorous affair, it attracts top tier politicians, business leaders and celebrities. Now in its third year, the event has raised well over £100,000 that directly supports the Trust’s work around the world.

78 countries still criminalise same-sex relationships. The Trust works with LGBT activists and organisations around the world to build support for equality in their communities, with their political leaders and in international institutions. Overcoming global homophobia and transphobia is a massive undertaking; the Gala Dinner is one of our strongest tools to raise funds to meet that challenge.

Funds raised at last year’s Gala Dinner have been integral in allowing the Trust to pursue a number of exciting projects, bringing real change to LGBT communities around the world including:

In country

Funds from last year’s Gala Dinner allowed us to provide support to successful projects in Africa and the Caribbean. In Uganda we worked with a coalition of organisations to assist them to improve their strategic communications. In Malawi we supported activists campaigning to make sure equality was discussed during the Presidential elections.

In the Caribbean we teamed up with LGBT groups in Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados to record the experiences of young LGBT people and put pressure on their governments to live up to international obligations and protect their rights We have also supported ‘Generation Change’, a brave new coalition of young LGBT people calling on their political leaders for change with a stronger and more united voice.

In the UK

The Trust has been working with a range of parliamentarians and policy-makers to help shape the government’s response to anti-gay legislation around the world. We’ve helped to facilitate meetings between activists from around the world and policy-makers at the very highest levels. Through our Human Rights lecture series we’ve helped to give renowned LGBT activists a platform to speak to British policy-makers, businesses and the public, including the inspiration Jamaican lawyer and activist Maurice Tomlinson.

In the Commonwealth

Of the 53 Commonwealth member states, 42 criminalise same-sex relationships. The

Trust has been working hard to build support for equality within the Commonwealth community. We’ve been central in establishing the first Commonwealth network of LGBT organisations, bringing together more than 30 organisations from across every region of the Commonwealth. We’ve been working with Commonwealth civil society organisations to build support for LGBT rights. And we’ve been working with the Commonwealth diplomatic community – from criminalising and non-criminalising countries – to educate them on the importance of LGBT rights and to work with them on how they can best support equality in their countries and in the Commonwealth.

But we can’t do this without your help! With the funds raised by this year’s Gala we will build on this track record of success.

In country

We’re building on our successful work bringing together activists, opinion formers and policy makers and will be rolling out further projects strengthening the work of our partners in Uganda, Malawi and the Caribbean.

In the UK

With an election this year it it vital that we ensure that the next government, whatever its make up, supports the struggle for LGBT equality globally. We’ve been working with government policy-makers and all political parties to help them understand how, post-election, the UK can best assist the international struggle for LGBT rights.

In the Commonwealth

With our network of Commonwealth LGBT organisations we will be preparing a series of major initiatives to make sure that the Commonwealth’s record on LGBT rights is addressed at the 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. We’ll be bringing together academics, activists, diplomats, politicians, governments, civil society and business to make sure that the voices of LGBT people from across the Commonwealth are heard.
