An anti-gay activist has complained he was rejected by bakeries when he tried to buy a cake with the words ‘gay marriage is wrong’ on top.

Theodore Shoebat claimed that his experience was similar to that of gay couples who were refused wedding cakes in OregonColorado and Pennsylvania.

An equality activist in Ireland was turned away when triyng to order a celebration cake with the slogan “Support Gay Marriage” on.

Mr Shoebat called around bakeries which were owned and operated by gay people – but was ‘surprised’ that owners refused to back his anti-gay message.

One worker told him: “We don’t do cakes, we do cookies. We’re a gay cookie shop, so we don’t think that’s going to work.

“Is this like a prank phone call? I don’t want to do that, because that’s hateful. I’m a married lesbian – almost everyone here is married or in a serious gay relationship. It’s bulls**t, I’m sorry.”

However, she eventually concluded: “If you want to be hateful, and ignorant, then sure, I’ll make it for you. I’ll put a big dick on it too.”

Another said: “I apologise, but we don’t support that, because half of our staff is gay. You have a great day.”

A third told him: “I don’t feel comfortable writing that – but you can buy a cake and write on it yourself.”
