Apple stores turn logo red for World AIDS Day

Apple stores across the world are lighting up their logos in red today, to mark World AIDS Day.

The flagship shops of Apple stores across the world – including their Regent Street store in London – are lighting up their logos in honour of fighting HIV.

In addition, the company said a portion of the proceeds “from every product, accessory, and gift card we sell” today will go towards the fight against AIDS.

CEO Tim Cook, who recently came out as gay, said: “Proud to announce our largest-ever World AIDS Day campaign. Join us in the fight and help save lives. ”

“Apple is a proud supporter of (RED) because we believe the gift of life is the most important gift anyone can give.

“For eight years, our customers have been helping fight AIDS in Africa by funding life-saving treatments, which are having a profoundly positive impact.”

Apple CEO Tim Cook came out in October, saying: “So let me be clear: I’m proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me.

“For years, I’ve been open with many people about my sexual orientation. Plenty of colleagues at Apple know I’m gay, and it doesn’t seem to make a difference in the way they treat me.

“Of course, I’ve had the good fortune to work at a company that loves creativity and innovation and knows it can only flourish when you embrace people’s differences. Not everyone is so lucky.”
