The President of Uganda has said his country is a “better destination” for tourists than Spain.

Criticising the Ugandan tourist board, Yoweri Museveni said attractions in the country go beyond “some chimpanzees”, and that the country needs to be marketed better.

He said It is a “good place on the globe where you go and have a nice life.”

Apparently not, however, if you are gay, lesbian or bisexual, as last year he signed a bill increasing already harsh penalties for those found guilty of “aggravated homosexuality.”

Despite the law having been found unconstitutional on a technicality earlier this year, Ugandan politicians have promised that a new, harsher law, will be voted on by Christmas.

The new version of Uganda’s anti-gay law could effectively make all gay and lesbian people homeless.

Comparing Uganda to Spain, Museveni said the latter is too “hot and humid”.

It was announced earlier this week that Uganda will be hosting the 2017 World Cross Country Championships.
