Brooke Shields says she was “smitten” with George Michael after he refused to have sex with her.

The American actress admits she was surprised when the British singer rejected her advances when they shared a lift home from a party for Grace Jones when she was a teenager.

Writing in her new memoir, ‘There Was a Little Girl,’ she revealed: “I thought, ‘Oh God, I’m going to have my first time with George Michael in the back of a limo’.”

Shields was initially devastated when the Wham! star looked into her eyes and said: “I think we need to take a break. I need to concentrate on my career.”

But the ‘Suddenly Susan’ star thinks everything “worked out” for the best and is glad the ‘Faith’ hitmaker was “so respectful” towards her.

In an excerpt obtained by PEOPLE.com, she wrote: “It was sort of ridiculous, but he was so sweet to me. I was also a really safe bet. I mean, it was like, ‘Here’s the virgin.’

“In that era, nobody was coming out, and he was a sex symbol. So, I was harmless. We kind of laughed. He was funny. There’s a depth to him, too.

“I was smitten just because he was so respectful and I didn’t feel pressured. It all worked out. It was very enjoyable.”

Michael came out as gay in 1998 and the rest is history.
