The PinkNews Awards will take place next week, and among those set to speak and present awards are Ed Miliband, William Hague, Nicky Morgan and Vince Cable.

The invite only event, held in the State Rooms at Speaker’s House, will be introduced by the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow. Mr Bercow is a well known supporter of LGBT rights and his coat of arms features a rainbow flag together with the pink triangle; both symbols of gay rights, around the words “All Are Equal”.

Those presenting honours at the awards will include Leader of the Opposition Ed Miliband, First Secretary of State and leader of the House of Commons William Hague and Business Secretary Vince Cable.

Minister for Women and Equalities Nicky Morgan – who voted against the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act –  is also presenting an award.

PinkNews publisher and Out4Marriage founder Benjamin Cohen said: “It is true that some in the gay community, including ourselves at PinkNews, questioned her appointment, however rather than shy away from questions on this issue, she has agreed to speak at one of the most high profile events in the LGBT community.

“I think that this shows courage and commitment to her new role, where she has placed significant emphasis on tackling homophobic bullying in schools.”

Mrs Morgan told the Evening Standard: “I’m absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate the work of individuals and organisations who’ve made a significant contribution to LGBT equality at the Pink News awards and to be able to set out my priorities as Equalities Minister.”

Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls and Minister for Schools David Laws will also speak at the event and present awards.

Categories include MP and Peer of the Year, Marketing Campaign of the Year, Community Group of the Year, Employee Network of the Year and a Special Award for Lifetime Achievement which will be presented by Mr Miliband.

Nominees will be announced nearer the date of the awards, and results will follow.
