Actor Sir Ian McKellen has reprised his Lord of the Rings role, during a visit to a school to combat homophobia.

The actor – who appeared as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings and the current Hobbit films – was speaking to students at Chew Valley School as part of his work with LGB charity Stonewall.

Talking to a crowd of students through a window, he reprised his most iconic line, saying: “In your preparation for your examinations, if you don’t do your revision properly, YOU SHALL NOT PASS!”

Headteacher Mark Mallett said: “It is a day that they and I will never forget.

“Sir Ian was a gracious guest at the school and an impassioned evangelist for tolerance and equality.

“I can think of no better creed for our young people to take from their school careers into their lives as citizens as they go from here to contribute to the future of our society and country.”

The actor and Stonewall co-founder will be honoured with Freedom of the City of London later this month.
