Famed boxing promoter Kellie Maloney has said she “was so frightened” of losing her daughters after coming out as trans.

The former boxing promoter and UKIP candidate came out as transgender in August, before entering the Celebrity Big Brother house a week later.

In an interview with the Mirror, Maloney spoke of her daughters during her hormone treatment.

“They had not really met Kellie,” she said. “Every time I had seen them until then I had still been Frank as much as I possibly could, although at the same time I was going through hormone treatment.

“I was so frightened of losing them. If they had turned their backs on me and never wanted another thing to do with me I had to be prepared to lose them.”

Sophie, Maloney’s 19-year-old daughter, has said “she’s much nicer as Kellie,” although reacted with surprise at her coming out.

“I was in absolute shock and cried, a lot,” she said.

“I nearly forgot to breathe, I didn’t speak and when I did I made an awkward joke and we just laughed and then cried!”

She added: “I only met Kellie for the first time the other day. I still don’t know how to process it, but I’m proud of her for being so brave.

“She’s much nicer as Kellie.”
