Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish are set to be honoured by LGBT rights organisation the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).

The couple will be given the HRC’s National Equality Award at the US organisation’s 18th Annual National Dinner.

They are being recognised for “changing hearts and minds by living openly and honestly”, as well as their work with the Elton John AIDS Foundation, which has raised over $300 million (£185 million) since its foundation.

A keynote address will be given on the night by former US president Bill Clinton.

The dinner will take place on 25 October 2014 in Washington DC.
