Former t.A.T.u singer Lena Katina has reaffirmed her support for gay rights, after her ex-bandmate said she “wouldn’t accept” a gay son.

Julia Volkova, who has previously identified as bisexual herself, said yesterday that she “would condemn” her son if he came out as gay, but that women should have the “freedom” to be lesbians.

The band – widely known for their ‘faux-lesbian’ image, officially split in 2011, and had previously spoken out in favour of LGBT rights.

Katina took to Facebook to deny that she shared the views of her former bandmate.

She said: “Hey, all! I am seeing some comments lately regarding my position about LGBT and my religion.

“I can say one thing: God is teaching us to live in love, to be tolerant and not to judge other people! And I do so!

“Love is love and it is a wonderful feeling! I think everybody should be free to love who they love and be with who they want to spend their life with! Xoxo”

Last August, Lena said the anti-gay laws in Russia were “weird” because “a lot of people from the government with the big positions are gay”.

If made today, the duo’s 2002 music video for ‘All The Things She Said’, which received attention at the time for a suggestive video which showed the two singers dressed as schoolgirls kissing in the rain. might see them facing arrest under the country’s ‘gay propaganda’ law.
