PinkNews.scot launched to mark Scottish independence vote
As Scottish voters take to the polling booths to decide on independence today, PinkNews has launched a new domain bringing together all Scottish content on the site.
PinkNews.scot links to all Scottish content on PinkNews, and has been launched to mark the independence vote today.
Founder of PinkNews, Benjamin Cohen: “However our hundreds of thousands of readers north of the border vote today, PinkNews is 100% committed to continuing as the most read LGBT publication in Scotland. That is why we are today announcing the launch of PinkNews.scot, taking our Scottish readers direct to the latest news from Scotland.
“We are so proud of the work that we have undertaken with the Scottish Equality Network, in particular working with them to promote their Equal Marriage campaign and look forward to working with them further as we extend our coverage in Scotland. It makes great business sense too, as Glasgow is PinkNews’ third largest city, in terms of reader numbers.”
Over the past weeks, the Yes and Better Together campaigns have both highlighted how LGBT equality could be benefit or suffer from a vote for independence.
Last week, PinkNews published documents from each of the major Scottish parties detailing how they believe gay rights could change under independence or remaining part of the UK, but with increased powers for the Scottish Parliament.
The Yes campaign also recently launched its Rainbow Paper, which outlined measures to ensure equality for LGBT Scottish people.
A lawyer with Better Together criticised the paper, however, saying it was “flawed” and “misleading”, and saying the UK Supreme Court’s achievements on equality cannot be downplayed.
