Google and YouTube to receive GLAAD Award in San Francisco
Google and YouTube are set to receive a GLAAD award next month in San Francisco.
The search engine and video innovators will will the inauguaral Ric Welland Award at the GLAAD Gala in San Francisco.
The Gala is to celebrate ‘game changers’, and the Google and YouTube award will be presented by YouTubers Tyler Oakley and Hannah Hart.
Google spoke out against the now defunct Proposition 8 in California, which banned same-sex marriage. It has also extended benefits to gay and lesbian couples, and donated time and efforts towards equality, including several doodles related to LGBT issues.

The award is named after Ric Welland, a computer software pioneer and philanthropist.
GLAAD Gala San Francisco: Game Changers recognizes national and Bay Area leaders advancing LGBT equality through the media and also funds GLAAD’s national advocacy work to rewrite the script for LGBT equality. ‘Orange Is the New Black’ star Taryn Manning will host the event, with a special performance by ‘Glee’ star Alex Newell, and special guests including Meghan McCain and Peter Paige.
