Lib Dem councillor resigns after being called ‘dirty bloody homosexual’

  • D.McCabe

While I understand that what he has been through isn’t nice (and quite frankly shocking that it is happening) but he cannot force change by resigning.

Surely it would be better for him to stand his ground and force the bullying issue out into the open and force those responsible to face the error of their ways? Otherwise it will continue.

    • Robert W. Pierce

I agree. That’s exactly why they harass and bullly so people will ‘disappear’. I’d take a chance, suffer the slings and arrows and make a stand. confront them head on. Expose the bigotry.

      • misfit44

Well yes. Let us have a full and open debate about homosexuality. Unfortunately this is what the gay mafia will not allow. They simply shout all the opposition down. Indeed they are responsible for the contunuing destruction of freedom of speech, thought and conscience.
Let us have a debate about: ” Being born gay”; about so- called ” homophobic bullying that is equal to the holocaust or blacks being enslaved; about 10% of the population being gay; about Gay marriage being all about luuurve and about gays making better parents than straight one. The gays will never allow it in public and will silence all opposition.

He is a lunatic either way.

          • Tristan

Don’t you see how pathetic you are trolling gay news website? Does god want you hurting, bullying and harassing others he created?

          • Dolly Digest

misfit44 aka Stephen Green – indeed you do appear to have risen to the
surface again – so your metaphor re. scum is indeed quite apt. How is
your wife? As I recall the media reported that she left you due to your
vile crazy paranoid beliefs and also due to the domestic abuse that you
subjected her to. I am sure you will agree that she is most definitely
much happier without an abhorrent delusional fool like you in her life.

        • Dolly Digest

As I am sure you will agree bigotry in all forms should be silenced. Racism, sexism and homophobia should never be tolerated in any civilised society. But then Misfit44 you are not a civilised individual so you would not understand that. It is completely understandable that your wife left you and is enjoying coitus with a more intelligent breed of human being and most definitely someone more man than you could ever wish to be. Stop dragging your knuckles chump!

          • misfit44

Well there you go. Disturb the water and the scum rises to the surface. But after a while it sinks back again into the mire.

    • http://davepage.valueofnothing.org.uk/ Dave Page

Would it be better for him? I’m sure if Sam wanted and was able to do that, he would.

    • misfit44

Clearly if he isn’t prepared to suffer sticks and stones in Sumerset how will he face the slings and arrows in Westminster? There is no room in Politics for poor old me, hypersensitive, cry baby hissies and Pink tantrums. He has fallen at the first fence.

      • Guest

Stephen Green is misfit44 I am asking everyone to ignore and flag is posts. I think it is time that this site was made out of bounds to wretches such as Green.

        • misfit44

          Here, here I agree.

          • Guest

You too, we would like it to be out of bounds to you too.

          • jamesh

He sounds more like mad Mark Harris the ex-gay who used to argue on the ‘christian’ institute facebook page. He’s gay and hates himself because of it!

      • Dolly Digest

Sounds like more than sticks and stones. It sounds to me like many of the actions against this councilor border on illegal harassment and abhorrent homophobia. the Councillor needs to see a lawyer because this amounts to discrimination in the work place. A councillor may only work within the law. A Councillor is not an MP and is not exempt from employment law. Now, Misfit44, if you had been a half decent person, had a larger member (at least average) and did not insist on the missionary position, your wife might not have left you for a better human being. I am sure even your immediate family find you a little unsavory!

        • misfit44

          Way off target

          • Dolly Digest

misfit44, I would say I was spot on and due to your delusional state of mind my opinion counts for much more than yours. Oh and of course the mere fact that I am of a considerably higher intellect than you. In a discussion between you and I – I am always right. Thank goodness that matter is resolved! Please evolve and stop dragging your knuckles – you are aware that the rest of the human race have evolved to walk on two legs are you not?

And the council said it would NOT be investigating the claims.
Oh – So everything OK then. :/

    • Scrupulous.Geographer

We won;t let it go. Wghere was it? What is their mail address? We must push for an investigation and hostile tories should go to Toryland

  • graeme

Seems to me he isn’t mature enough to be a Councillor yet, he fell at the first hurdle. Do we have any evidence of anything? Sorry, drama queen. Stand up like a man and fight back or you’ll never get anywhere.

    • James J

      Define a “man”

      • anon

A man must be swift as a coursing river, with all the force of a great typhoon, with the strength of a raging fire, mysterious as the dark side of the moon.

      Wow, with friends like you…

  • thelostdot

I remember speaking to the chief exec of SCC years ago (prob. a different one), but I remeber how happy he was to do something utterly dishonest. The state of hour country with half it’s people happy to break the law is amazing in a supposedly law abiding country – but then it started with Thatcher.

    • http://davepage.valueofnothing.org.uk/ Dave Page

Started with Thatcher? Really? Under Thatcher powers were taken from councils after a bunch of corruption scandals in the early 70s, usually involving council leaders handing lucrative contacts to their mates. I mean, I’m no fan of Thatcher, but I think your history is wrong here.

      • pandoraknopp

Remember Section 28, are yu SURE you’re no “fan of Thatcher”

        • misfit44

          Bring it back.

          “Hitler killed Kennedy”
“I’m no fan of Hitler, but I don’t think he did…”
“WWII… Gas Chambers… are yu SURE you’re no ‘fan of Hitler’?”

You sound like one of the Tea Party…

      • Fur Beasty

Yes it started with Thatcher who targeted Labour councils and ignored corrupt Conservative councils like Westminister and sadly it continues today with public services like Royal Mail being flogged off cheaply not to mention prisons, probation, and even health care services being sold off to ‘friends’ fo the government.

    • David H

I think it probably pre-dates most of recorded history to be honest. There’s enough examples of corruption and criminality going all the way back…

  • Isaac

This is not someone that needs to remain in office if he can’t stand up and fight for himself how can the people expect him to fight for them? Everyone knows that you have to have thick skin to be in politics and be ready for battle on the personal and professional front. I hope gets stronger because what he is experiencing is life and there will always be a bully out there in the world it up to him to stand up or go run and hide. If he continues to run and hide the bullies win STAND UP

    • http://davepage.valueofnothing.org.uk/ Dave Page

Why should choosing to serve your community as a councillor mean you have to “battle on the personal front”? Why should it make you the victim of abuse, homophobic or otherwise?

      • Isaac

He knew what was going to happen eveyone knows since the beginning of politics that it gets very dirty and personal. I applaud him for wanting to be a councillor but, at the same time you don’t run the minute the heat gets turned up. If everyone did run like he is doing then nothing would ever get accomplished it takes a lot of will and support to stand up to people bullying you. Why do think Stonewall took place? Why do you think the civil rights movement took place? If MLK had just stepped down or the drag queens had just kept taking the beating we would not have the freedoms we have today. Do you think Mandela did not endure pain and loneliness? So him running because someone calls him a “sissy” or some other name simply means he should turn to them and educate them.

    • misfit44

      Exactly so . Here, here!

    • David H

As with all councillors at that level it’s a spare time commitment – not a profession. Also, he’s 22 years old, he’s still learning how to deal with the knocks and the rubbish that the scummier elements of life throw at you. Credit to him for giving it a go and for knowing when to walk away – not all of us do and then we’re just labelled hard faced and accused of being a “gay mafia”.

  • John

Possibly more appropriate for Police than Somerset CC to investigate. Council standards committees where they still exist are virtually powerless, and the allegations suggest a hate crime. Has the (ex)councillor reported this to the police? If his allegations are true, he should.

    • Temp

Thank you. I was beginning to think we hate our own who are trying to improve society!

    • misfit44

Well of course the police are already in the thrall of Stonewall. The police have ceased to catch real criminals but simply go after people if they think the wrong thoughts.

I think Pink News should publish the offensive tweets he was sent. Yes?

    • crusher grape

I wouldn’t hold your breath. He’s probably “deleted” them ;)

      • JohnM

Erm, you can’t delete other people’s tweets. Only your own.

  • Tesria

For those saying he’s weak for backing down: most other politicians don’t have to deal with anything like this level of crap. We’re talking about a county councillor. He wants to make sure the roads have fewer potholes and local issues are addressed, he’s not trying to change the whole world or run Westminster. Would he have gone further? Maybe, maybe not, but people shouldn’t have to endure hate crimes to do their jobs and they shouldn’t be looked down on for not being willing to martyr themselves.

This is what he meant when talking about why “normal people” don’t become politicians; you have to be a certain level of detached and/or psychopathic to cope with it. That’s not exactly going to make for the most understanding or compassionate of leadership, is it?

    • misfit44

If only LGBTs politician were only concerned about potholes, wind farms and local issue, but they are trying to turn the whole world upside but sodomising instead of solomising marriage. They would have say that the sun is the moon and the moon is the sun. The would exchage truth for lies, light for dark and bitter for sweet. I am afraid it is the genes: the gay gene.

      • Guest

misfit44 he troll Stephen Green polluting the comments section of Pink News. Anyone responding to his posts is simply giving encouragement to one of the most loathsome individuals it is possible to identify.

        • David H

Stephen Green? His name is David Skinner and he’s an obsessive anti-gay, anti-abortion (which gays are apparently responsible for in his twisted mind) “Christian” who tried to petition Downing Street to permit homophobic bigotry. A very sad and hate-filled individual.

          • Guest

Sorry to say it is provably Stephen Green, he posted up about his campaign against Tesco on the Christian Voice website and re-posted the exact same on Pink News. By checking the Disqus log for all posts under misfit44 it was easy to cross reference the material. It is most assuredly Stephen Green rent a lunatic from ‘Christian Voice’. Skinner and Green are of the same brand of bible madness, but the evidence for it being Green is compelling.

          • David H

I was simply taking it from the Facebook link attached to the Disqus profile, which links to Skinner (who has links to the similarly bonkers Christian Institute) – all pretty vile individuals whatever :-)

I’d just clicked on the FB link on his disqus profile (I can never understand why people use pseudonyms to post bile and then link it back to themselves (perhaps it’s just me?) A couple of his comments here are pretty much redrafts of what’s on his facebook page – so he isn’t even that original!!!!

      • Dolly Digest

Misfit44 – have you been a moron all of your life or is this an indoctrinated learned trait from those equally ignorant and of low IQ? LGBT have worked tirelessly to make the world a better place – sadly the good work done by LGBT is often undone by the unevolved ignorant bigots not unlike yourself. Now please pick up your knuckles instead of dragging them when you walk!

Man up – Politics is a dirty business – Should have exposed each and every incident/person!

    • Scrupulous.Geographer

  • roamingcat

He comes across as a very young 22. Probably best he quit as I imagine a thick skin is required for such a job, not to mention dedication to a particular cause. Homophobia rears its ugly head in all professions, however, some employees do not have the luxury of choosing to quit. I would have admired him and thought this a worthy news story had he confronted his bullies and used his position in a smarter way. To choose to bow down and then talk to the press is a let down

    • misfit44

Christians are the most persecuted in government today, whilst gay MPs are given unlimited power. : Alan Duncan, Angela Eagle, Peter Mandelson, Chris Bryant, Waheed Ali, Ben Bradshaw, Simon Huges, Margo James and on and on and on. Whereas Christian MPs are ridiculed and patronised. Get real.

      • Roku

Proof please of christian MPs being persecuted & of gay MPs having unlimited power.

        • David H

He can’t Roku – it’s another of his pet peeves and totally ignores the fact that the bishops sit en bloc, wholly unelected, in the House of Lords.

          • Roku

  • Arr U. Gaetü

Some people can’t fight the good fight, so it is up to us to defend him, and it doesn’t matter what our own sexuality or politics are. We fight to stop what is wrong, especially when the cowardice of evil is taking advantage of those weaker than themselves.

It’s time to stop blaming the victim, it’s too easy and it adds to the problem, it doesn’t defend the helpless or solve anything. Personally, I wish you would just stand there silently and do nothing, but throwing blame at the victim is the same abuse, just better cloaked under faux intellectualism; a way of throwing punches at someone already down without getting blood on your hands.

Some of us have been beaten up, relentlessly for years, thrown through shop windows, and fired from nearly every job simply for being Gay, but he doesn’t need to. He has us. Gay pride isn’t just a bunch of rainbow flags marching down High Street on a weekend, it’s about being part of a family and seeking out and hurting (legally or politically) those doing harm to our brother.

He is not only too inexperienced with such an overwhelming opposition, but he is too inexperienced to know where to look for help, and too kind to ask for it. It is up to us to jump into the fray and unleash the pent-up anger stored from our past centuries of threats and intimidation. There is no army more dangerous than one that has nothing to lose.

We have enough Gay martyrs, it is time to make a few bigot and homophobe martyrs.

  • john

It’s a slightly confused account of things and comes across as somehwat over dramatic. It’s hard to believe one of those old Tory councillors ran after him down the street after speaking to someone outside a shop. What on earth is that all about?
Accusing someone of homophobic abuse is serious then SCC should and must investigate if true.

  • Gerry

Why hasn’t PN tried a bit of journalism and tried to name and shame those responsible? They should be held to account for their alleged actions.

And what was the reaction of the Lib Dems ? Are they content to do nothing ?

    • Read Fagburn.com

      Cause they don’t exist?

  • Ciaran

This is the reality of what gay and bisexual people face even in 2014, my advice would be to hold your heads high and stay strong and firm in the face of such prejudice don`t be belittled and use the laws that are there for you to take action against such prejudice.
It is your legal right to use the laws that protect you, Now I`m fully aware of the damage homophobic bullying and harassment can cause I witnessed the damage caused to a friend because of that very reason, but don’t give up and don`t give in, its important to remember that.
We`re a strong community as LGBT and no matter what homophobes throw at us we`ll always fight back for the sake of justice and humanity.

    • misfit44

The real homophobia is an internalised homphobia. The homosexual hates himself and will never find peace until he repents and finds forgiveness, as we all have to do from the Lord Jesus Christ. What makes the homosexual think that his sins are so special that they need to be celebrated instead bemoaned. What’s good enough for straight sinners is good enough for homophiles.

      • Roku

Because A: Its not a sin to be gay & B: Jesus Christ doesnt exist, hes just a figment of your twisted imagination. When did you turn to Jesus to stop your same-sex desires? It’s not working for you by the way, Ive never known someone be so obsessed with anal intercourse.

        • misfit44

Who’s talking of anal intercourse, apart from you? I thought you were talking about luurve.

          • misfit44

But there is no such thing as a hetero and homo. There are only men and women.

          • David H

Probably the only time I’m ever likely to agree with you. The labels are meaningless. We’re all just human beings.

Some men have sex with women, some men have sex with men, some men have sex with men and women; some women have sex with men, some women have sex with women, some women have sex with men and women. Some people fall in love with people of the opposite gender, some fall in love with those of the same gender. And some people are completely bigoted idiots who don’t understand the concept of love and waste their lives hating others.

          • misfit44

Some people fall in love with their mothes, grandmothers, sisters, other people’s wives, their pets, chldren, dead bodies, the Eifel Tower and even themselves.

          • David H

But the Bible, which you seem to believe should be the absolute basis upon which all people live their lives, recognises and, on occasion, (despite contradicting itself – which it does over a number of issues) endorses a number of incestuous relationships. It also condones rape and a whole host of other abominations that most civilised people would reject absolutely.

As a guide to live by, the Bible has always been a cherry pickers guide, because, if you follow it’s guidance absolutely – it’s as morally bankrupt as the masquerading “christian” hate-peddlers, such as Christian Concern, the Christian Institute and all of those other fascist style Christian groups who want to impose their way of life on everyone else.

          • genjiken

Truth. Unfortunately, truth is not directly related to affect.

      • misfit44

Yes, I was born one. You see I come from a long line of homopobic bigots. Its in the genes you know. I have no choice. I tried to change and even went for counselling. However I couldn’t and became suicidal. But you know what I am coming out and proud. I am a homopobic bigot. I yam what I yam, as Pop Eye the salor man said.

    • TomSatsuma

That’s what I thought – don’t want to dismiss his claims, but it seems very odd that the council chose not to investigate his claims. It’s pretty basic procedure to do so if informed of this kind of thing.

      • David H

According to the BBC News report, the Council aren’t investigating as no specific allegations have been made directly to them. Personally a bit of a cop out given that it’s been plastered all over Twitter – you would have thought there was a moral obligation if not a legal one.

  • Anna

This does not surprise me one bit. Politics is a dirty business. They look you straight in the face while running you down behind your back. Being openly gay has made me many enemies over the years. Some people think I am too harsh. I openly say that we have to be prepared to take our rights by force if nessarry from those damned homophobic Christians. We must make our money talk.

    • misfit44

You are already taking your so called rights that overide those of every one else, especially the UN charter of Children’s Human Right for every child to have both mother and a father. The gaystapo are the equivalent of the Ernst Rohm’s Brown Shirts. Bring it on sunshine.

  • Purple Mask

It is quite clear from his own blog that he takes his work very seriously and that he has a modern perspective on what it means to ‘open up a dialogue’ with his local voters. He is aware of his supporters, but he’s also aware that he only won his position by 45 votes and that he is a controversial figure locally. Politics is a tricky career path, and he knows how much time he has ahead of him. It might be that he was bullied out of the way and that he wants some time for himself and his partner, or it might be that he has resigned to clear the air for an even greater career move in the future. It’s probably a bit of both. Either way, I wish him well for the future.
