Caroline Lucas, the Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, has recorded a video for the city’s Pride festival.

Ms Lucas said: “I am delighted that we’ll be celebrating Pride here in Brighton and Hove again this summer. It’s a highlight of the cultural calendar in the city. It’s a feature that everybody looks forward to. And in so many ways really it’s a symbol of what makes Brighton so special.

“It’s about tolerance, diversity and it sums up the city’s fierce commitment to justice and equality. Brighton is a very special city and Pride is a very special event. So whether you’re a resident or a visitor, we very much look forward to seeing you at Brighton Pride again this summer.”

David Cameron has given his backing to this weekend’s Brighton Pride in a statement of support.

The Prime Minister said: “The Pride festival is an excellent opportunity to bring people from different communities together to enjoy not only a colourful and entertaining day out but a whole programme of cultural, social and sporting events.”

Labour leader Ed Miliband has recorded a video for the festival.

He said: “Brighton and Hove is a fantastic city, and Pride is a moment where we see it in its great diversity, its tolerance and its celebration of equality.”

Brighton Pride is taking place this weekend. The main parade and Preston Park event is on Saturday.

The parade through the city begins at 11am from Madeira Drive.
