Trans actress Laverne Cox has made an appearance in a stunning new John Legend music video.

The Orange is the New Black star – who earlier this week made history when she was nominated for an Emmy – appears in the video for You & I (Nobody in the World), which is a tribute to the female form.

The video features a total of 63 women of all shapes and sizes, including a girl with Down’s syndrome, a female weightlifter, model Chrissy Teigen, a heavily pregnant woman, and a woman who has undergone a mastectomy.

The video was released onlongside film When I Look In The Mirror, which explores the lives of some of the women in the video.

A statement says: “We asked 63 women what they see when they look in the mirror.

“When I Look In the Mirror is a behind the scenes exploration of each woman’s thoughts and insights as they take a deep look into the mirror and reflect on themselves and their experiences.

“We conducted dozens of interviews over the course of twelve days to cultivate this collection of voices.

“From cancer survivors to a middle schooler facing bullying, each woman’s answer is indicative of her unique life experiences.

“Through interview, vérité filming, and staged recreations, this short documentary will deeply explore female self-image, self-judgement, and ultimately, self-love.”

Cox – who is also known for her trans advocacy work, and is making multiple trans-related documentaries – featured on the cover of TIME magazine earlier this year.

She was awarded GLAAD’s highest honour, the Stephen F. Kolzak award by X-Men star Ellen Page in April.

HBO’s acclaimed HIV drama The Normal Heart, based on the play of the same name about the life of Larry Kramer, swept the board in the nomination list, picking up 16 nods.
