An American anti-gay activist has taken to the airwaves to say that men who have sex with men are just looking for a “cheap orgasm”, because they can’t handle the pressure of being a “real man” and marrying a woman.
He also accused President Obama of having a “spiritual… obsession” with LGBT rights, and warned that children must be “inoculated” against acceptance of homosexuality.
Peter LaBarbera, who is president of ‘Americans For Truth About Homosexuality’ (AFTAH), made the remarks while appearing on the radio show of New York pastor James David Manning. Right Wing Watch reported on his comments.
He said: “I think homosexuality is one sense offers to men, if I can say this on your program, it offers the cheap orgasm. It’s a lot harder to be a man, a real man and have a family, court a woman, marry a woman, have children, raise a family.”
LaBarbera expressed agreement with Manning’s statement. “I heard you, on one of your tapes,” he said. “You talked about how homosexuality is robbing the potential husbands of women in the black community, and I thought, that’s interesting, because actually that’s applicable to all women in America.”
He went on to criticise Obama, saying: “By flying the rainbow flag, which is the symbol of homosexuals – they stole the rainbow and use it to promote homosexuality – [President Obama is] pandering to such a degree that it’s like there is a spiritual force behind this, because who can explain the obsession that Barack Obama and his administration have for this issue.”
LaBarbera, who has previously blamed gay men for child abuse within the church, continued: “I think we have to tell our kids, look, when you go to college or high school someday, if somebody comes up to you one day and says ‘I am gay’, say, ‘Well, are you really? Because I don’t think God wants homosexuality. It’s not part of God’s plan for anybody’s life.’
“We have to start inoculating kids. Tell them it’s unhealthy behaviour, some of the facts we have now, that are incredible, coming from our own government health agency.”
Earlier this week, LaBarbera wrote to openly gay NFL star Michael Sam, advising him to consider gay-to-straight conversion therapy, citing the HIV/AIDS rate amongst young African American men, or risk earning “regret, as well as notoriety among millions of us”.
