Joan Rivers refuses to apologise for claiming Michelle Obama is ‘a transgender’

  • Bonnie Raymond

Michelle Obama is strong and competent and beautiful– so she must have male chromosomes?
What kind of strange sexism is that???

    • Rumbelow

Get over it, such an insignificant throw away comment from a comic.

      • Jon C

Far from a “throw-away” when one doubles down on it.

        • Rumbelow

So don’t double down on it, ignore it.

          • Krazie

That’s exactly what I would expect from a christian Dipshit like you.

Pathetic and sad more like ….. She was once a comic, now she is just a sad bitter old Jewess waiting for death!

        • Rumbelow

What a cruel thing to say, you have a problem.

          • Pádráig O’Gáirmléadháigh

Yea I have a problem with assh0les who dis the POTUS just because they don’t like the colour of his skin. How is what I said any more cruel than what this dried up old harridan said about the President and his wife just to get a cheap laugh. Well no one is laughing Joan, and when they did way way back whenever, it was at you, not your pathetic screaming non jokes. Now you are the joke and even more people are laughing at you! ………. Easy knowing she is ass licking The Donald and its ridiculous hairdo!!

          • http://marie-little.net/ Marie Little

Convincing of what? On what streets? Do you have problems walking down the street? I don’t. Perhaps it’s your expressing hatred at everyone you meet that causes you that problem.

    • crash2parties

I’ve heard similar remarks from racists about African American women, that they “must actually be men”. It’s an odd mix of sexism *and* racism, all boiled into one attention-begging statement.

      • Cornelius

@crash2parties, I hear the same thing about white women, that they “must actually be men” because of their thick calves & flat behinds & lips. There will always be people with something negative to say & not just about black women.

    • MR.BOBO

      Bwaaaaahaaaaaa

  • James J

“You have green eyes”, says person A to random reporter about person B (who actually has blue eyes).

“Apologise for that shocking and outrageous statement” says reporter and spokespeople for person B.

I hope that explains my feeling on this.

    • Mark Y

Right yeah. Because people get abused all the time over their eye colour.

Another example would be someone saying “You do know Martin Luther King was secretly white.” and then trying explaining themselves by saying “why would that be offensive white people are the most intelligent, blah blah blah.”

      • James J

Suggesting somebody is gay or transgender is not an insult as far as I’m concerned, just as much as getting somebody’s eye colour wrong is not an insult. The question is whether it was used to insult? …Her defense was wrongly put and that’s when she made her biggest mistake.

        • Toni Massari

I think the question, as the first commentator rightly said, is whether the statement is made to attract attention and get publicity to coincide with the publication of a book. THAT is outrageously cynical, using presumed secret Trans and LGB identities as a shocker to guarantee press coverage of a woman that is so hasbeen she’s practically a historical figure.

        • Mark Y

If you seriously think she wasn’t trying to insult of offend, I think you need to get real about Joan Rivers. She is and always has been insulting and offensive.

And don’t forget, being called gay is an insult, whether you think its insulting or not, it’s used against people all the time – and it’s homophobes that usually say we should ‘get over it’ when it is used as an insult. Kids use it all the time to insult others – “oh shut up, you’re so gay”. Whereas I’ve never heard a kid say ‘oh shut up, you’re eye’s are so blue”. So your comparison is vapid.

          • James J

Being called gay as an alternative word for “stupid” (as is done with kids) is an insult but I don’t believe being called gay as a statement of meer assumption or speculation is an insult. I know all about homophobic abuse and have had my entire life alternated and turned upside down by it but I believe if we treat comments like those by Rivers as just ordinary assumptions, they are no different to mixing up somebody’s eye colour, hair colour, star sign etc….

          • Mark Y

You think Rivers was assuming or speculating? Get real. Wake up. She was abusing, just like the kids do, even worse than that actually because she’s trying to be clever about. Insidious.

          • James J

Bottom line, in my opinion, to say somebody is gay or transgender is not an insult, unless those words are used as an alternative for stupid or rubbish or used outside of a discussion on sexuality to attack somebody’s character. I didn’t see that happen here.

          • Mark Y

No bottom line is, Joan Rivers is offensive and insulting, always has been, always will be. She didn’t say it as a term of endearment or as a compliment or as speculation or anything else. She was intending to insult and offend to get some publicity for her new book. It’s sad that you are continuing to defend her when that is clearly what has happened.

          • James J

That is just your opinion on what happened, it is not cast in stone. You continue to argue as if it were fact and nothing is for certain. I have already stated my opinion. Being besides the point, I don’t particularly like Joan Rivers and I’m aware she said it to shock because it’s still a shocking type of statement but I can not see the offence. Maybe my opinion will change with time or from seeing a new perspective but to simply suggest somebody is gay or transgender and that’s it, makes it a non-insult to me at the moment.

          • Mark Y

You have never stated your opinion as to why she made such ridiculous statements. Why do you think she said what she said?

Just out of interest, do you think saying Obama is gay and his wife is a ‘tranny’ is funny?

          • James

As I said already in my last comment, “I’m aware she said it to shock because it’s still a shocking type of statement” and no I don’t think it was funny but that again is besides the point, nor is my opinion as to why she said it. I’m only dealing with the content and context of what was said.

          • Mark Y

And do you think calling a heterosexual Woman a ‘tranny’ is offensive?

          • James J

I don’t like the use of the word “tranny” and I disagree with the use of that word, although she did correct herself a moment after and used the word “transgender”. Had she simply used the irreverent word, yes I would consider it offensive and as said earlier on, I do find the remarks she made defending her comments as offensive. But the confines of suggesting somebody might be gay or transgender, even if they are not, is not offensive to me. I believe her remarks would actually be more offensive to homophobic people who are disgusted with any suggestion somebody such as the US President could be gay. By the way, I’m not the only person in this comments section who believes it’s not offensive to suggest somebody is gay or transgender. Teasing out a response from those people too might be helpful for you to get some varying views on this issue :) Take care.

I did. I’m gay. Support Stonewall. Teach on bullying and homophobia. Positively rant to all, including friends and family, on the insulting use of “Gay”. This was bloody funny and I hope the Obamas saw the fun side – unlike some of these quite astonishing people on here.

But the miracle of electrolysis, IPL & lazer + hrt all of which you are ignorant of mean we don’t suffer facial hair. If you look at the stats transwomen have better than average IQ & education so you really don’t have a chance here.

        • danah gaz

Aside from everything else that Mark covered, by claiming that Obama is gay and married to a trans woman, she is insinuating that trans women are not women and that *is* pretty offensive. Full stop.

          • James J

That is a very good point.

          • danah gaz

Thank you. I’m so used to hostility when pointing out anti-trans sentiment that I had braced myself for a confrontation. Apparently I hang out on the wrong parts of the Internet. =)

          • James J

Hi danah, I’m hugely supportive of transgender people and I’m learning the social justice and injustice of trans people as I move along in life, so thank you for highlighting a very specific and sensitive point which gives added perspective on matters. More people need to hear your voice!

          • Cornbread20

She’s just trying to say Michelle looks like a man. simple as that. You are ready far too much into this & trying to redirect this towards gay.

          • danah gaz

Right, because peddling in tired stereotypes about how trans women look “manly” is so much better, not to mention that the racist “manly black woman” trope was past it’s sell-by-date long before Joan was.

          • TNT

Wow! Talk about projection! Who actually said that Michelle Obama was manly?

Did you ever hear Joan Rivers commenting on George and Laura Bush? Or about hundreds of other famous people?

Your feelings are strange indeed. Ms Mouth owes an apology to Mrs. Obama.

      • TNT

No she does not. She’s a comic, and that’s what comics do, whether you approve of an individual statement or not.

So did “Buddy Hackett” They were also comics who dared tread on the dark side… It wasn’t my cup of tea, but someone must like it….

    • Pablo

      What a dumbass statement.

  • Mark Y

It’s sad and pathetic when a white Jewish heterosexual comedian uses gay, transgender and black people to get publicity for their new book.

  • http://www.derekwilliams.net Derek Williams

Concomitant with all this feigned outrage is the idea that it is an insult to call someone gay, and an even bigger insult to call someone transgender – and the POTUS and FLOTUS to boot? The very idea.

    • James J

Exactly the same point I was making, but in a different wording.

    • Philip Marks

This didn’t come out of the blue.
I wouldn’t have so much issue with it if it were not ACTUALLY BELIEVED and ALREADY passed around by the utter nut jobs in the TeaPublican party for several years now. To parrot this is to be as meaningful as suggesting the President build his library in Kenya where he was born…not funny, not useful.

  • Vincent Bernhard

Tell her that her comments might cost her 2 bucks and you will see how she sings a different tune. She is LOVING the free publicity. She has zero talent. Anyone can be tacky and scream at the audience,

  • Steve Craftman

FFS, Joan, your originality in terms of targets and what you say is getting just a trifle old. Don’t you think it’s time to go out on a high (even if that was a few years ago)?

    • Bonnie Raymond

They are insults if they are intended to be insults. Which makes them even more offensive as insults, since they should be neutral terms.

  • Edgar Carpenter

@mikeylano – I agree – everyone knows that the Obamas are an opposite-gender non-gay couple, but they would be equally pleasant and respectable if Mr. Obama was gay and Ms. Obama was transgender. How could Ms. Rivers’ comments be an insult to the Obamas or us gay folks or transgendered persons? They suggested an alternate reality which is quite positive.

If you’re offended by Ms. Rivers comments, you didn’t understand the comments in the context in which she uttered them. That often happens with comedy, irony and satire – people who ignore the different contexts they encounter as they move through the world tend to like simpler amusements, like slapstick and gossiping about “celebrities”.

Ms Rivers is sometimes too cruel to other people for my taste – but this was not at all mean spirited or cruel.

    • Jim

There was a time many years ago when I liked Joan Rivers, but she has now become a sad parody of herself, saying the most outrageous statements to try getting a cheap laugh. It is disgraceful that an old desperate, Jewish woman finds it so easy to disrespect the POTUS just because he is Black. It is beyond Karma that despite the racism, hatred and outright lies, His presidency is one of the best and most successful in the short history of the United states. I shudder to think what would have been the outcome for the entire Planet, if the moron Mormon Romney’s presidential bid succeeded. Fortunately Karl Rove’s attempt at stealing yet another, a third presidency for the Teabagger/Repukelicans failed miserably…..

    • dave

I think that is twice now that you have mentioned her religion. It wasn’t a fujny joke, it wasn’t clever joke and in fact, if it was a joke at all, it was an unpleasant one. I agree with all of that. But her religion is not relevant. I get the minorities bit, but still, your posts are inappropriate on that score. The references divert attention from the real issue and give rise to a suspicions of antisemitism which probably are not well founded

  • TNT

You can’t have it both ways. If you follow Joan Rivers and you laugh at the things she says about the Kardashians or Michael Jackson or whoever, don’t go all meek and offended when she turns her comic ire on you or one of your heroes.

And by the way – this is one of the most gay-supportive celebrities in the world, and she in particular dubbing someone transgender or gay is not an insult. (And the Obamas have been more promise than achievement generally, if we’re honest.)

    • jordy

I like your opinion about the Obamas, the grammarian is now a political pundit. Oops, should there be a comma after Obamas, and start a new sentence?

Being called gay or trans in itself isnt an insult. Although she definitely meant it to be. What is especially offensive is her implying that Pres. Obama would be gay if Michelle Obama were hypothetically a trans woman. If you people cant grasp that concept then you are just as bigoted as Joan Rivers is.

  • crash2parties

Like PETA, every few months she has to do something, anything to get attention…in their case to get donations, in her case to sell a book.

  • Steve_R

JR keeps reinventing her Transgender joke… decades ago on the Las Vegas strip it was her plastic surgeon was so good he transformed Michael Jackson from a black man into a white woman.

Over the years she had a pop at every one from princes to princesses. popes to presidents. every one had a thick skin and either liked or disliked her, now she has to be so politically correct there’s no basis for her humor or innuendo. The world has changed all around her as she has aged, her humor hasn’t! the difference is humor can’t be relative anymore because we are afraid of “who” or what people think were laughing at.

    • TNT

But what people laugh at behind closed doors hasn’t changed.

There is nothing wrong with any President being gay. There is nothing wrong with any First Lady being a woman of transsexual history.

What is definitely wrong and should be called out to the max, is:

    1. Saying that a straight male married to a straight woman of transsexual history would somehow be gay as a result, which is absolutely ludicrous.

    2. Being a cis person outside the LGBT community and feeling free to use the derogatory slur “Tra**y” in a flippant manner of disrespect.

    3. Implying that being gay or trans is something shocking… using the accusations as hateful barbs,

Joan exercised her free speech rights to s**t on trans women. I am using my free speech rights to call her out for being an abject @$$hat.

As a side note, the first woman of transsexual history to have had ovaries and a uterus implanted during SRS/GCS was Lili Elbe back in 1929-1930.

    • TNT

God. If only you trannies were as sensitive with the way you apply make-up.

      No wonder you irritate people.

      • danah gaz

        Wow you’re a creep.

        • TNT

          … said creepy.

I hate the fact that the frothy trans cause has been added to the gay struggle. Being gay or being lesbian is about who you’re attracted to. Being trans is about how you like to dress up.

And after some of you have had the ultimate op, and the testicles (the cause of your kink) have gone, you’re surprised that you’re more desperately unhappy than ever.

          But I’m the creep. Freak.

          • danah gaz

Yes, you’re the creep, and a bigot.

Being trans isn’t about how you like to dress, you impossibly ignorant man. That would be cross dressers and drag queens, to wholly different things – and you should know better, considering how many you’ve got in your community.

            > And after some of you have had the ultimate op, and the testicles (the cause of your kink) have gone, you’re surprised that you’re more desperately unhappy than ever.

You’re talking about transvestic fetishists, not transsexuals, and you’re wrongly equating gender dysphoria with a paraphilia – something that no educated person would ever do – of course, when your whole identity is tied up in sex acts, I guess it’s hard for you to see that others don’t define their existence that way. Freak.

Fortunately for your movement, most of those involved aren’t utterly disgusting little men like you.

          • TNT

You really think that being a woman is about dressing up, and that being female is tied up solely to glossy 20th century western women’s fashion mores. You’re laughable.

          • danah gaz

No, I don’t. You seem to be the only one equating gender dysphoria with cross dressing.

          • TNT

And there’s more to it than that?

You could have had some support from the wider community, but you lost the right to that when you became so utterly hateful.

Gender dysphoria has nothing to do with cross dressing. Clearly you haven’t even read up on the subject, or you wouldn’t make such ridiculous assumptions.

It’s a condition that’s experienced by both intersex and trans people, and it’s characterized by a persistent inability to process the sex which one was assigned at birth.

How someone expresses their gender is entirely a separate issue.

I find it ironic that you are trying to call me out for being hateful after you’ve baselessly claimed that I was a pervert and a freak.

Trans rights were never a gay issue. They are a feminist issue. Read some Judith Butler, FFS.

          • TNT

Well even feminists learned to lighten up. Perhaps, in time, you will also develop a sense of humour. I will, however, seek out and read Judith Butler if only to see – if it’s explainable – how anyone can so loathe the body that they’re born in that they want to hack pieces of it off. (Because it sounds alarmingly like another manifestation of bog-standard depression and self-harm.)

          • danah gaz

Stop attacking trans people and making excuses for people who do and you’ll find that trans people aren’t actually as defensive as you imagine, but as long as you go around spouting anti-trans hate you’re going to find that trans people stand up to you, whether you like it or not.

Besides, telling people who are being insulted to “get over it” is BS and you know it. Nobody has to stand for that.

And no it’s not a standard manifestation of depression and self harm. This is what happens when you make guesses about subjects that you have no working knowledge of.

          • Mark Y

Dinah, just ignore the troll. Nothing you will say to TNT will make it change its mind. It lives to insult, which is probably why it’s part of the Joan Rivers fan club. It’s a sad and pathetic excuse for a human being who has such an empty life it feels the need to keep writing abusive comments to you.

Like a bad smell, if you open the windows, it gets carried away on the wind.

          • danah gaz

            Fair enough.

          • TNT

Right on, Gazza, me old mate!

          • TNT

See. This is precisely the kind of hate-filled shyte you can ever hope to read from someone whose entire identity is invested in a feather boa.

If I had an empty life, I’d be getting the vapours every time someone made a joke. That is, like you. Get back under your bridge, and don’t speak till you’re spat at. You’re desperately out of your league – and applying lipstick three times a day to your depression-dried lips doesn’t suddenly make you Bette Davis.

          • Mark Y

What fcking drugs do you take? I’ve never worn lipstick in my life. You’re a total fckwit.,

          • TNT

Never worn lipstick, but you’re still a c**t.

          • TNT

But you are all depressed – as is exhibited by your constant, constant griping. So something is very wrong, whether your malady is explainable or not.

          • danah gaz

The irony of this comment – considering the body of your posts here – is probably lost on you.

            Not on anyone else, though.

Consider yourself ignored. I’m sure you’re used to it by now.

          • TNT

Time for your amitriptyline and leg wax, I think.

Because it’s smooth, smooth legs and those classic fragrances from Yardley that make a REAL woman.

          • http://destroyedforcomfort.com/ Rani Bakr

maybe if you actually talked to some real trans woman instead of the imaginary ones that seem to heavily populate your disturbingly obsessive fantasies, you’d learn something.

          • TNT

You ARE imaginary. You’ve just hitched your frightening cause to someone else’s bandwagon.

          • TNT

By the way… are you really Danny or Gazza?

          • Wyrdsister

So when did you become a medical expert ? What qualifies you to diagnose someone else as depressed ? Oh right, nothing but your own bigotry.

          • danah gaz

PS: If it weren’t for trans women like Sylvia Rivera you wouldn’t even have a gay struggle.

      • Nualaan

Do you have an issue with the the fact that I exercised my free speech rights to call Joan out on her homophobia and transphobia? Or do you take issue with my standing up for the LGBT community?

        • TNT

I have an issue with the fact that you are a ghastly person seeking to lay into someone with no provocation. You don’t speak for the lesbian and gay community. You do speak for the trans-deadender community all too well, however.

          • Nualaan

No one person speaks for any community. I did stand up for the LGBT umbrella community however, because I belong to that community in more than one way and because Joan insulted the overall community. To speak up is my right as much as anyone else’s.

You however, were the one who first “lay into someone with no provocation…”

I can recognize an obvious troll when one jumps out at me from under the bridge… It didn’t take too long for you to reveal your agenda…

          • danah gaz

She just wants attention. She’ll keep trolling you long after you leave.

          • Nualaan

I pretty much figured so Danah. Thanks for the heads up.

          • TNT

Yeah, Gazza. Neal Allen agrees with ya! You must both be true persecuted minorities, mate!

And by the way… that’s the only heads up you’re going to get, I suspect. What’s the matter, you two – did you cause more shock than usual out on the streets this afternoon, so decided to make an issue out of a non-issue?

Find your own bandwagon, because you’ve soured every other one that you’ve jumped onto.

          • TNT

Joan did not insult the community. You are nuts! And just because someone disagrees with your illiterate, nonsensical rantings doesn’t make them a troll. Any inkling of dissent, and the other party has to be shut down.

The more I ‘talk’ to you and Gazza, the more obvious it is to me that ‘Trans’ is but the manifestation of depressive kink. With a nasty streak thrown in, and a persecution complex the size of… well.. .the size of a size 24 ill-fitting frock rejected by Dorothy Perkins.

          • Nualaan

Textbook… right out of “Trolling For Dummies”. Have fun sir.

          • TNT

Still depressed. Always a victim. Let’s just have LGB and leave you freaks waaaaaaay out, huh?

          • Nico Ana

*yawn* what a boring troll you turned out to be…

Don’t worry, I doubt you will find many “T” people wanting o be lumped together with the likes of you or Joan. Too much human waste in THAT sandbox.

          • TNT

Another ‘woman’ with a crooked wig and deep voice appears.

No one wants to be associated with you anyway, buddy. You really don’t represent yourself well. What a hive of resentment and self-loathing you are. No wonder you’re so touchy.

          • Nico Ana

I wish I could give you a gold star for trying so hard.

          • TNT

But of course, it’s on your forehead with a shovelfull of glitter.

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

Actually Nualaan, I thik it might be Julie Bindel! Hence the projection (of self-loathing) bit about size 24 reject dress from Dorothy Perkins etc.

          • TNT

Monica – just man up. Oh wait…

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

See that picture? That is me. See that name? That is me. See the link to the facbook page link? That is my page.

Do you think I worried by some utterly spineless worthless saddo hiding under a cloak. You think that I take your trans allegation as a slur? I don’t … trans women are women. Calling a woman a woman is not a slur. Calling a woman a man is just about the most feeble thing you could try.

I’m laughing at you NOT with you. I’m mocking your lack of emotional intelligence. I’m laughing in the face of your spite and I’m calling you out for your cowardice.

            Such a lightweight!

          • TNT

Trans ‘women’ are fetishist men. You overcomplicate the issue because you are a fetishist. Womanhood has nothing to do with bad wigs and weird voices. Try again.

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

I’m a ‘fetishist’ for believing that all people have an equal right?

Interesting proposition, be interesting to see how you seek to justify it.

And I’d rather hear the voice of any woman than your bitter-filled whiney, and tiresome voice.

          • http://destroyedforcomfort.com/ Rani Bakr

Pretty sure trans folks can be gay and bi and stuff too

I think I’m gonna start making buttons that say “TRANSDEADENDER” on them

          • Bonnie Raymond

“Nasty, vindictive, humourless – ugly in every way imaginable.”

Just ignore the “high brow” part. Perfect otherwise…

          • TNT

Well it is for you, cobber.

          • TNT

What sophisticated musical tastes. Another bloke in a wig, I’m guessing.

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

Baited again ~ you are so easy and predictable. How old are you?

          • TNT

Your ‘wit’ is as dried up as your skin.

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

            Thanks for the link.

Lily Allen nails it as usual! Voted hilarious.

          • TNT

‘Monica’, it’s a shame you miss the irony of someone trying to be something they most definitely are not.

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

It has nothing to do with ‘irony’ but everything to do with emotional intelligence but as you have already demonstrated that you have about as much as a tadpole, I had pre-warned myself not to expect too much from you.

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

Lily Allen says it as it is.

        • danah gaz

She’s just some creepy bigot, and a Joan Rivers fan, but I repeat myself. ;)

          • TNT

You don’t need to be a fan of Joan Rivers to find the trans species and its hateful ravings laughable. Why have you tagged yourself onto the gay movement, ffs?

Gay rights are all about self acceptance.

You are the hideous opposite of everything the gay movement stands for! You are riddled with self-loathing, and think that by being a caricature of a biological woman you will escape your ugly misery.

          • Wyrdsister

“Gay rights” & LGBT rights are not about self acceptance. They are about the right to be treated as a human being. Trans people are perfectly happy, the misery seems to be yours. Please stop trying to impose your misery on us.

  • Krazie

Looks like Alzheimer’s onset poor dear.

    • TNT

Why? For using two entirely non-abusive words? What’s wrong with you?

  • soapbubblequeen

Is Joan having a laugh?! Or is she really losing it?! I wwonder what will happen to her when she’s buried? I bet if they dug her up two years later there would be little piles of silicone all over the place.

    • danah gaz

They won’t be able to bury her.

      She’ll be recycled.

      • TNT

At least she’ll die with a real vagina, Gazza.

  • danah gaz

I love the fact that I’m prettier inside and out than Joan Rivers and her abusive little sycophantic troll on this thread. It’s fun. I can turn off the comments, visit another site, and they’ll both still be very ugly people.

    *grins*

    • TNT

Prettier inside and out? I doubt either. You’re just a self-hating bloke in a dress.

      *grins*

      • danah gaz

Thank you for underscoring my point. Go ahead and keep talking. It won’t make you feel any less empty inside.

PS: Even when I was a “bloke” I was *still* prettier than you. LOL

        • TNT

You still are a bloke. What an insult to women everywhere to think that a flabby middle aged mixed-up mess like you is in any way a woman.

          No wonder you’re permanently offended.

      • http://destroyedforcomfort.com/ Rani Bakr

And you need new glasses and new jokes.

        *shrugs*

        • TNT

Oh no! Another guy in a wig has dropped down from the ceiling! It’s like True Blood in here!

          Screeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam!

          • http://destroyedforcomfort.com/ Rani Bakr

Um, who’s wearing a wig? Gurl I probably have a healthier softer head of hair than you do.

          • TNT

            Probably – on your cock.

  • Mary Leitschuh

The accusations of racism are always interesting. Obama would not be President if a majority of whites did not vote for him. Any comments on his abilities as President are always attributed to racism by Obama followers. Use facts instead of accusations…….it is more powerful. Why is everyone so whiney…….grow a pair and stop calling everyone who questions him a racist.

  • Mary Leitschuh

My comment got deleted. I said that it is interesting that people cry “racism” when Obmama is criticized because he would not have been elected (twice) if it had not been for a large majority of white voters in his base. I also said people should use facts instead of just calling “racism” bigots, anti-gay, etc…….facts are more powerful. Grow a pair and stop calling people names for having an opinion or for questions POTUS.

  • Mary Leitschuh

Also, instead of worrying about comments (remember the old saying, “sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me??)……how about helping the Marine that is being held captive in a Mexican prison (over 100 days now) and no one is helping him. He has PTSD and any US official could help put pressure on Mexico to release him but people are too worried about Kardasian gossip and stuff like this. Please ask everyone you know to boycott Mexican produce and Mexican vacations until this young man can be released.

  • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

I’m coming to this debate quite late I know. To be clear from the start I’m no fan of Joan Rivers. I don’t like to hear the word ‘tranny’ used about women who just so happen to have a trans history because most often it is used to demonstrate the negative feeling of the utterer.

While I understand the anger, I don’t think the emphasis here on her personal looks (or anybody elses) are helpful to the debate or have a place at the centre of it. I’m not claiming I have immunity from doing do and I know I’ve done a little myself in the past.

Some folk here have assured that Joan Rivers is not a homophobe or a transphobe, so I’m looking for a context that might explain her outburst.

What if there is some history of that journalist asking questions from a homophobic / transphobic stance and she was using heavy sarcasm as the tool to ridicule the questioner?

The nature of the use of terms ‘gay’ and ‘transgender’ being slurs does not lie in the words themselves. The words themselves are innoffensive and a slur from their use should not be deemed to be automatically so. It is difficult to determine whether or not the comment is coming from a person who is a phobe or not ~ and I believe it is this that has caused this debate to spark with such strong emotion.

Therefore trying for the moment to give Joan Rivers the benefit of the doubt, I find that her judgement is lacking in saying those things. Her comments have proved to be devisive whether she intended it or not. She has provided too good an opportunity for those filled with self-hate to crawl out of the woodwork and project this own self-loathing onto others.

    • TNT

Well you can always crawl back in again.

      • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

If brains were TNT, you wouldn’t have enough to blow your hat off!

Oh, and by the way, I didn’t call you a hater, you self-identified.

        BAITED …LOL.

        • TNT

I’m sure it’s not the first bait you’ve put out.

          And that was rejected.

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

No, but it was the first bait I put out to you. You were too easy!

I thought you might manage to say something interesting, but no wait … my mistake.

          • TNT

            Your eulogy?

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

D’ya know, I’ve lived quite a long time and met a good many people; many of them interesting. Some of those people I have found to be quite spiteful and coincidentally always utterably miserable. I don’t like stereotyping but your comments cause me to draw a logical conclusion. Cheer up why don’t you?

          • TNT

            You really are expiring?

And I think it’s you that needs to cheer up, freak chic. When you describe a joke as an ‘outburst’, you know it’s because you can’t get anything to fit you properly, and your Adam’s apple is still too big.

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

I’m guessing that you have parts that are too small? Would go some way to explain your feelings of inadequacy.

Come on then TNT, I call on you to reveal yourself. No? I thought not, spineless, chinless, brainless, ****less and an utterly miserable mortal that you are. ‘ *grins*’

          • TNT

I would hope that my parts ARE small. I’m a biological woman, so I know when to point and laugh at the synthetic version, along with the rest of the human race.

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

hahaha …I had thought so. You are Julie Bindel or one of her clones aren’t you.

BTW… all women are biological. Your hatred is illogical however.

Come out, let’s see who you really are.

          • TNT

            Julie Bindel? Seriously?

            God, but you’re desperate.

Biological women are biological. You are someone with a ridiculous fetish.

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

Why don’t you show yourself …. something to hide or just the coward I think you are?

          • TNT

Show myself as what? As female? I don’t want to be targeted by men who wear women’s clothes to walk down the street – you and your weird clique have shown yourselves to be genuinely psychotic.

You can’t bear dissension, can you?

For all that pseudo-reasoned waffle you entered the thread with, it kills you that someone would find you pathetic and volatile.

Well that’s the thing about free expression. It’s not just free for the likes of you.

          • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

You seem to be obsessed by judging women by the size of their adams apple, calling women men in wigs etc not knowing whether they have a trans history or not.

‘I don’t want to be targeted by’ etc … and yet you get onto this site targetting people because of YOUR problem. You need to start owning your problem and stop projecting.

As I thought, and thanks for confirming, you are indeed a coward and all that goes with it.

Now this is confirmed I need waste no more of my time on you.

          • TNT

Oh, but you do. Because you know and I know that you have no business being in any rights lobby with your kinky little fetish.

You are the antithesis of what the human race stands for now.

For you are a bullshit beacon of all things self-loathing.

          • Wyrdsister

I find it hard that to believe that you are a women…

  • TNT

Thank you, tranny-guys for confirming what the sane part of the human race has known about you all along… that not only are you atrocious dressers with poor deportment and big Adam’s apples… you are singularly the most vicious and unpleasant and humourless species on the planet.

I have very much enjoyed giving you a taste of your own medicine, and now implore you to please cover up your mirrors before you get any more depressed. And NEVER let anyone record you speaking!

You teach the world so much about self-loathing and wanting to be something other than you are, and for that lesson alone, we all sincerely thank you.

Show yourself loser. Come on I’m calling you out.

        • TNT

          I’m guessing tug-of-war. With stockings.

        • https://www.facebook.com/monica.cassidy.3 monica

Thanks Johnny for the reminder. I think I’m done now. Eventually I dragged out of her that she is one of the Burchill / Bindel clones who is too cowardly to show herself. Nuff said really.

          • TNT

Well even if that were true (I don’t even know who Bindel is and there is something comically surreal about you bringing her up every five minutes), it’s better than being in the parody-of-a-woman pack, and ludicrously suggesting that being a biological female is but a cultural expression.

You’re just the same as other brutish, ridiculous men – fetish, entitlement, misogyny and delusion.

      • TNT

Never has paranoid schizophrenia looked so odd.

  • TNT

Well I’m going now. I hope you don’t miss me too much.

Thank you for confirming what I have long suspected: that the LGB and feminist movements need to thoroughly re-evaluate their associations with the trans community.

If my comments here have seemed extreme, they are the natural revulsion to all the mysogyny, patriarchy and ageism I saw expressed before I had typed even one word.

You wear your victimhood like a talisman, girls. Maybe it’s time to ask yourself why people still mistrust you. Because it seems – surprisingly, because I didn’t always hold these views – that despite all the external dressing and frippery, boys will always be boys after all.

    • danah gaz

Buh bye. You’ll be missed, you stalker freak.

  • Delphi Omally

As if trans people don’t suffer enough mocking, a comedian adds to the pile….not only owes an apology to Michelle but to the entire world (she is worldwide) trans audience and community. Comedy at the expense of a persecuted group is never comedy. It is a cheap shot try at laughter at the expense of others….

  • Delphi Omally

What will she say next? That Obama looks like a m*nkey? Joan Rivers is very, very wrong on this one….

  • http://thenakedgeek.shawwebspace.ca/ Barry William Teske

Ah…Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.
Turns out the joke is on us.
    Really truly on us.
Guessing some of them have habits to support.

  • Voiceofreason1

    Come on guys, wake up!

It has been widely known that Obama is gay – before the 08 election, it was discussed. And as a gay man, it makes perfect sense that his live-companion would be male. Why are you all so shocked? (especially in this forum)

This is a very informative vid in 2 parts:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?…

    Obama calls his wife “michael”

A very good overview put to music:

  • trutheran

It is true Michelle use to be called Mike and there is nothing wrong with having a gay president
