George Takei and Macklemore served as two of the grand marshals at Seattle Pride on Sunday.

Star Trek actor and gay activist George Takei and hip-hop artist Macklemore served as celebrity grand marshals at the parade, in downtown Seattle on Sunday.

Takei commended Washington State on their progressive approach to equality saying, “Well 40 years ago, what seemed unimaginable, today is reality. We look forward to the day – I think this decade – when we will indeed have the United States of America.”

Macklemore and Takei were joined as grand marshals by Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, married to his partner last year and King County Executive Dow Constantine, credited with signing the first same-sex-marriage licenses in Washington state.

Over 200 groups marched in the parade, representing local groups and LGBT-supportive businesses.

The parade met with religious protesters holding placards with warnings of retribution for the sins of the crowd, but the demonstrators were peacefully escorted away from the celebration without consequence.
