Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak mistakenly asked a gay contestant last night whether he had found a woman who was willing to marry him.
During the episode, which aired Thursday evening, Sajak introduced contestant TK Klotz, asking: “So you’re engaged, some woman agreed to marry you?”
Klotz replied: “Some gentleman, actually”, before Sajak, lost for words, joked: “I had a 50-50 shot he’s gay, and I messed up!”
Sajak – a Republican donor – attracted ire a few months ago when he “came out” as straight, and later claimed that next people will demand equal rights for plants.
Damn the career consequences! I’m hereby proclaiming my heterosexuality!

Prediction: Next big “cause du jour” will be Plants Rights. No joke! (Can see posters now: Ficus have feelings, too!)

Reacting today, he said: “Pathetic how some try to take a genuinely funny and charming moment on the show and twist in into something else.”

Klotz told Deadspin of the gaffe: “Pat actually apologized to me during commercial break. He may be outspoken about homosexuality but when confronted with it head on he was very nice.”
