The celebrity diving reality show Splash, featuring Tom Daley as a coach, has been axed after ratings took a nosedive.

The Mirror reports an ITV insider said a third series of Splash! had been hanging in the balance as bronze medallist Daley prepares for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

A source at the network said “Tom’s diving comes first. But we love having him on the channel and are looking at other projects for him.”

4.4 million viewers watched February’s final in which Diversity star Perri Kiely won the top prize – but this was two million down on last year’s final.

In January, gay Brazilian diver Ian said he had been inspired to come out after seeing Tom Daley’s December YouTube video.

In the video, Daley revealed of being in a same-sex relationship. He later confirmed the identity of the man as Hollywood star Justin Lance Black.

Daley confirmed that he’s gay – and no longer interested in dating women – on ITV2′s Celebrity Juice in April.
