A former UKIP councillor who was forced to resign for making homophobic and racist remarks will not stand again – despite having vowed to do so.

Dave Small was expelled from the party in May, just days after he was elected to Reditch Borough Council, representing the ward of Church Hill.

Mr Small had written on Facebook: “Why on earth is this useless Goverment [sic] pandering to Puffs?

“I refuse to call them gays, as what has gay to do with Perverts like Elton John and Clair Balding [sic] who get their jollies in such disgusting ways. to sum up, they should not allowed to be married, they should go back to the closet.”

In February, Mr Small referred to gay people as “perverts” and said that “poofs and dykes” should not be allowed to marry.

He also used defended using the racial slur “p**i”, and predicted the UK would be overwhelmed with “thousends mor scroungers” from Mali [sic].

West Mercia Police subsequently launched an investigation into his comments.

Despite saying he would stand again, in a finalised list of candidates for the Reditch Church Hill by-election, which takes place on 17 July, the Redditch Adviser reports Mr Small’s name does not appear.

Isabel Armstrong (Independent), Lee Bradley (Green Party), David Gee (Liberal Democrat), Len Harris (UKIP), Kathy Haslam (Conservative), Agnieszka Wiecek (Independent) and Nina Wood-Ford (Labour) are all standing for the seat.
