TUC: Jersey should hurry up and introduce same-sex marriage

  • Aron Sasportas

    The report is misleading.

“Equal Human Rights and Civil Rights for All Persons, No Matter Their Gender, No Matter Their Sexual Orientation: A Newsletter” (www.humciv.com) states that “In the Isle of Man and in the Bailiwick of Jersey same-gender consenting adult couples, no matter their gender, no matter their sexual orientation may contract civil partnerships, which confer all the benefits, entitlements, privileges, protections, and rights that civil marriage does, so that the only difference between the two is the slight difference in name.”

Consequently, it is only a question of a change in terminology, not in substance.
