Update: Steve Martin tweeted to state that he had not seen a script or been offered the role, debunking reports that the film was going to be made.

A new Father of the Bride film has been announced, and will explore same-sex marriage.

The film, Father of the Bride 3, will see Steve Martin return to the big screen as George Banks, alongside Diane Keaton as his wife, reports the Guardian.

The third instalment in the series will see the couple’s son Matty, reveal that he intends to marry the son of a US Navy Seal.

As a result, “thunderstruck and speechless” Banks will be thrown out of the house by his wife.

The film, the first completely original film in the series will see original director and co-writer Charles Shyer in charge.

Father of the Bride, which came out in 1991, was based on a 1950 film of the same name.
