Tony Perkins: First Christian bakers will be made to serve gays, then sent to concentration camps

Tony Perkins, the president of the anti-gay Family Research Council has spoken on the radio to compare a Christian baker who was told to serve everyone, regardless of sexuality, to sending Christians to concentration camps.

Perkins spoke on Washington Watch with with Nicolle Martin of Alliance Defending Freedom.

During the slot, Perkins compared the discrimination case, in which Colorado’s Civil Rights Commission unanimously upheld the judge’s ruling that the baker discriminated against a gay couple, to the Holocaust.

He said: “I’m beginning to think, are re-education camps next? When are they going to start rolling out the boxcars to start hauling off Christians?”

“I guarantee that we are going to continue to see the witch hunt,” Martin added in the broadcast uploaded to Right Wing Watch.

The owner of the Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado has said he will no longer sell wedding cakes after losing a lawsuit from a gay couple who were refused service.

David Mullins and Charlie Craig began legal proceedings against Jack Phillips, who owns Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, last year.

Perkins last year voiced his disapproval at the Pentagon’s announcement that gay couples will be allowed leave to marry, if they live a certain distance from a state which legally recognises same-sex marriage.

He earlier in 2013 blamed the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, the US military ban on openly gay people serving, for suicides in the armed forces.

Previously, at the start of the US Supreme Court hearings around two equal marriage cases, Perkins claimed that the court ruling in favour of equal marriage could lead to “revolution”.
