‘Bareback Saint’ title for Andy Bell’s new album
Erasure star Andy Bell is releasing a new solo album called Torsten The Bareback Saint.
It deals with the subject of a gay man seeing his partners die of HIV at the height of the epidemic, before the arrival of antiretroviral medication.
It has been described as Andy Bell’s most serious work to date.
The album, released on 28 July, is a theatrical song cycle of 22 tracks over 63 minutes and tells the story of Torsten, a semi-immortal polysexual.
Andy will also be performing as Torsten in a one-man show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August.
Best known for being the lead singer of Erasure, Andy Bell came out as HIV positive in 1998.
Figures released in November last year by Public Health England showed HIV transmission among men who have sex with men (MSM) at an all-time high.
