A UKIP local election candidate in Liverpool has linked homosexuality to paedophilia.

Paul Forrest described the Catholic Church as the “anti-Christ” on Facebook and said that gay men are “ten times more likely” to be child abusers than “normal men”.

Mr Forrest also said the “end of Islam is coming” and that its followers who refuse to ‘turn to Christ’ will be “gone”.

Former Labour minister David Lammy said the country was “on the cusp of a serious bit of self-mutilation” in backing UKIP.

“Many of its candidates are saying terrible things about people of colour, terrible things about people who are gay,” the Tottenham MP added.

At the weekend, UKIP leader Nigel Farage claimed that the establishment was “singling out” UKIP members for ridicule, and that there was a “disproportionate media spotlight on UKIP members like Harry Perry.

Mr Perry, who was due to represent UKIP in the Offerton ward in Stockport this month, had described David Cameron a “gay loving nut case” and claimed that God “hates” homosexuality.
