NOM co-founder Maggie Gallagher: We should aim for a sub-culture of ‘traditional marriage’

  • lynn

I have always stated that allowing LGBT couples to be legally married has no impact on heterosexual marriage. If you want to “preserve the sanctity of marriage” as you define it, you do it in the confines of your own home with your spouse. Your next door neighbor could be a wife-beater or a serial murderer, but does that change the relationship that you have and continue to develop with your spouse? I once asked a hetero friend if his marriage was better today than it was five years ago and he answered that it was. I counter with “How is that possible when you stated that same-sex marriage would demean or diminish traditional marriage, and same-sex marriage is now allowed in 17 states plus the District of Columbia?” No real answer to that from him nor could there truly be a valid answer from anyone else. If someone else’s marriage can destroy yours, how good was your marriage in the first place?

A “subculture of traditional marriage”? I bet the only colors this subculture would use would be pink and blue, it would be enforced through gender segregation, and it would be enforced by the thugs of Printemps Francais. Oh, and priests can’t marry and womenfolk can’t be priests, just like the Catholics and Mormons would have it.

The revived Legion of Christ will be in charge of the traditional marriage….

The right-wing homophobic nuts in Canada have been reduced to skulking in dark self-confined caves rarely raising their impotent voices – now, seemingly attending to their own business. Hopefully the same will transpire in America. The universe will continue to unfold as it should.

Maybe she’s now admitting defeat and making our arguments for us because she’s met a nice girl…?

Religious conservatives keep claiming that LGBT people are a tiny minority. (3% is the figure they like to use.) Something in which the vast majority of the population engages cannot, by definition, be a “subculture”. This woman is a blithering idiot.

Remember when she was saying how “fun” it is to win? Well, we agree on at least that. It is fun to win, Maggie.

Every now and then they try to rehabilitate maggie – who got sidelined when it was discovered that her idea of traditional marriage was not one but two illegitimate kids

  • Rovex

Or indeed a sub-culture of having bastard children eh Maggie?
