A car belonging to a lesbian couple who were found murdered next to a dumpster last month in Texas has been recovered.

Britney Cosby and Crystal Jackson, both 24, were found murdered on March 7 in Port Bolivar, where the pair had travelled for Mardi Gras.

Cosby died from blows to the head, while Jackson had been shot.

James Larry Cosby, 46, the father of Bridget Cosby, was arrested a week later, and charged with two counts of tampering with evidence in the deaths.

His bail was set at $500,000 (£297,920), and he remains in Galveston County jail.

Police had been unable to locate a silver 2006 Kia Sorento SUV owned by one of the women, but the vehicle has now been found in Houston.

According to the Houston Chronicle, it was found Thursday in a vehicle storage yard.

Houston Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Darrell Isaacks said the car had initially been left in the car park of Ritz Cabaret, north of Houston.

It had been picked up without license plate by a tow truck , and was eventually flagged to police when a DeWitt Wrecker Service employee, who asked an officer to check the vehicle.

It is currently being processed for evidence, and will then be submitted to the FBI.
