US: Obama picks gay bishop for closing prayers at Easter Breakfast

Congratulations, Gene. A nice compliment for your hard work.
But I do have to laugh at the “love is of God” nonsense.

You are absolutely correct, Cal. I wish I could post a photo of a Christian church in the early 20th century showing the front of the church filled with KK Klansmen, with “Jesus Saves” on the wall behind them.

We celebrated the death of Jerry Falwell and recently Fred Phelps–all of them true Christians, men of hatred–along with Pat Robertson and a slew of black and white Protestant preachers–not to overlook the equal hatred coming from Frances Cress Welsing and Louis Farrakhan.

We’ve been reading reports since the late 80s about such a large percentage of the homeless who are gay–because their hateful Christian parents kicked their own children out of the house and disowned them! Ah yes, ‘God of Love’ my ass!

And here are the loving quotes from both Old and New Testaments:

Good News Bible: Lev 18:22 “No man is to have sexual relations with another man; God hates that.”

American Standard Version: “And if a man lie with mankind, as with womankind, both of them have committed abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”

KJV/Leviticus 20:13: “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”

Good News Bible: Romans 1:21 “Even the women pervert the natural use of their sex by unnatural acts. [27] In the same way the men give up natural sexual relations with women and burn with passion for each other. Men do shameful things with each other, and as a result they bring upon themselves the punishment they deserve for their wrongdoing.”

And while I’m at it: Let me point out to these self-contradictory “gay Christians” that maybe Jesus didn’t say anything about homosexuality in the New Testament, but since he’s part of the Holy Trinity, he was part of the team in the Old Testament that called for the stoning of gays.

When I asked a number of Christians, everyone said that “Jesus” was an eternal god, not a newly created god that is now 2,000 years old.

And maybe Jesus didn’t condemn homosexuality in the New Testament, St Paul did–and everything in the New Testament–according to Christians–is God’s perfect word! So what St Paul said about gays, one can hear Jesus saying “I approved this message”.

Those quotes are all distorted translations of any original texts. Anyway, there is all kinds of nonsense in the Bible.
Isaiah said the earth was flat. The expression “four corners of the earth” is from Isaiah.
In Ecclesiastes “The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises.”
        I could go on.
I don’t think we need to take any advice from a document of this kind.

I think that sends a message from the White House to the church and a pretty strong one too.

Not a Christian, but his is just—cool. Gene Robinson’s journey marked the beginning of a new trek for all mainline churches in the US. Some followed, others hesitated for awhile, others deferred, other outrightly attacked. But he changed the face of Christianity in the US—-for the best it can be to-day.
