UK: Expense probe launched into alleged ‘gay sex party’ at Tory conference

  • James!

Well congratulations look what you’ve done with your freedom. Living up to every gay cliché. I’ve not heard of Peter Tatchell or Chris Smith behaving in the way these newly out Tories and lib dem do. Shameful behaviour.

I would like to point out something here – this should not be about the sexuality of those involved.

We know that these privileged, self-important, detached, corrupt politicians – AND THEIR STAFF – give themselves all kinds of perks and abuse every system of government they can for personal gain. This should be about the abuse of funds and the indulgent and decadent lifestyles these people enjoy at the cost to all of us, while they should be doing their jobs.

If you think there haven’t been several hundred straight “sex parties” in the last ten years then you are delusional.

No politician needs to be staying in 5 star hotels for every trip, they don’t need caviar and champagne at every lunch, they don’t have the right to live cost-free while being paid £60 k a year in nothing but disposable income while we also pay their rent, food bills, phone bills, water, gas, electric…

The scandals over expenses were just the tip of the iceberg, and that was said a long time ago by several people in the know.

Again, the sexuality of those involved is meaningless, the real story here is the “old boys club” they’ve built for themselves where anything goes and we’re the ones who end up paying for it.

It’s bad news if expenses were claimed for a sex party – regardless of the sexuality of those who participated – but I find it very difficult to believe that a load of Tory gay men attending a Tory conference actually organised a “sex party”! I know that gay Tories are capable of having sex, but might it not be the case that LGBTory (or whatever they call themselves) simply organised a private social evening for themselves during the Tory conference and some homophobes are making the event out to have been something scandalous?

One does wonder about the eligibility of *antigay* religious events held at the same conference for the same entitlements. I hope the lads involved played (ahem) safely and that there were no illicit substances involved on the premises, though.

I’m a little lost on the groups that are involved here. Is the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority a nonpartisan body within the Government or an external watchdog or interest group? Also, what kind of research does the Parliamentary Research Unit do? Is it an independent body within the British Government or is it part of the Conservative Party? It seems odd to me that a publicly funded research group would be directly linked to a partisan group like the Conservative Party. Wouldn’t it make a lot more sense to set it up as a non-partisan legislative agency like the Congressional Budget Office?

Otherwise, it seems to me that no conclusive evidence of this event has yet been released. Of course, the fact that the investigation is occurring would seem to indicate that there are suspicions, and perhaps well-founded ones. If this actually happened, I imagine that it would reflect very bad on the government. It reminds of the recent General Services Administration scandal. I’m very liberal and I am not by any means opposed to government, but this type of negligence, waste and mismanagement is absolutely unacceptable in any public body.
