US Radio Host Linda Harvey, who once dismissed the possibility that “kids are kicked out of their homes just for being who they are,” has now said young gay people should stay closeted to friends and family until they can become straight.

Harvey, who founded Ohio-based anti-gay group Mission America, appeared on the Janet Mefferd radio talk show to promote her new book called ‘Maybe He’s Not Gay.’

When asked about young gay people coming out to friends and family, she said: “They do not need to come out to everyone.

“That’s the beginning of many troubling roads for many young people when they announce it and they feel like they have to live up to that, or down to that.”

She also gave advice on how to stop being gay.

“Be patient with yourself. Lots and lots of people have changed out of this lifestyle. And some have done it through Christian faith; others have done it as they mature.”

She added: “You shouldn’t be involved in sexual relations anyway.”

“For Christian kids you can really talk to them about what the Bible says ‘are you going to disbelieve what’s clearly in scripture?’”

Earlier this month, she dismissed the idea that gay teens are kicked out of their own homes.

She said: “The teen storms out by choice and leaves voluntarily because the homosexual relationship is more important than that of his or her parents.

“And when that all-important relationship ends, the teen is too stubborn or already too involved in alcohol or drugs or the premature independence of the homosexual life and he or she would rather drift than return home.

“I’ve heard [it] far too often.”

Harvey previously attacked the Girl Scouts of the USA, claiming that it “supports homosexual lifestyles”, and because it “features homosexuals in some of their materials”.

She also said that churches should be more proactive in opposing equal marriage, in the same way they fought to abolish slavery.

She previously praised countries which refuse to decriminalise homosexuality and said that the “radical” effort of the White House to achieve equal human rights was a “humanitarian disgrace”.

The Christian radio host in December said that same-sex marriage encourages children to have gay sex and that gay people aren’t human and should therefore not be protected under the US constitution. She also claimed that Jesus could be forced to marry another man if he was resurrected.
