James Franco to play former gay activist Michael Glatze in new film

Hollywood actor James Franco is in talks to play former gay activist Michael Glatze in a new biopic.

The film, which is to be produced by Gus Van Sant, who worked on ‘Milk’, will cost $3.5 million (£2.1 million), and will begin shooting in July in New York.

The production currently has no name.

Glatze was an advocate for gay rights, and the founder of Young Gay America magazine, before announcing that he no longer identified as gay. He has since spoken about bisexuality and sexual fluidity, is a pastor and married his wife in 2013.

Franco has starred in several gay roles, including Scott Smith in ‘Milk’ and gay beat poet Allen Ginsberg in the 2010 film ‘Howl’.

The 35-year-old currently stars in a Broadway production of ‘Of Mice and Men’.
