Police have arrested a man following a fire at a gay pub in Wales, which left one man seriously injured, and another five people needing hospital treatment.

The man, in his thirties, was held on suspicion of arson after the blaze at the Three Crowns Inn on Well Street, Bangor, during the early hours of Sunday.

A 29-year-old man suffered serious injuries after jumping from the second floor window to escape.

He has been named as Jason Robertshaw, from Bangor, a lecturer in performing arts and creative media.

A North Wales Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said he was flown to a Birmingham hospital. It’s understood that his family were at his bedside last night.

Police described Mr Robertshaw’s condition as “serious but stable”.

The Daily Post reports a friend of Mr Robertshaw said: “We don’t know how he is. We are trying to get in touch with the family. They are on their way down to Birmingham. Three others were taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd and one has been released from hospital. I think it’s awful.”

Two police officers called to the scene were also treated at Ysbyty Gwynedd.

Police say there is no reason to suggest the pub was targeted because it is an LGBT venue.
