Green MP Caroline Lucas: Let’s celebrate same-sex weddings and reflect on what still needs to be done

Yes absolutely! While we have gay marriage nowadays & the decriminalisation & disregarding of some former gay offences, others are deemed by the Home Office not to have been ‘discriminatory’, such as sections 13 & 32 of SOA 1956 & section 4 of the SOA 1967 all of which relied on the pretty police routine to entrap men looking for other gay adult partners. Yet, these spent, victimless (unless proven otherwise which the police case notes of the last 30 years clarify) and homophobic offences are among the offences that ‘can never be filtered’ according to 2013 Home Office rules for disclosure by the DBS of old criminal offences. So thousands of gay men (on whom these offences in practice relied for context for the most part) are branded criminals for the rest of their lives and necessarily risks to children and vulnerable adults because they cruised for sex with adult partners. Therefore they can neither work with children and vulnerable adults nor volunteer. This needs dealing with and urgently. The situation is nonsense.

Caroline Lucas, thanks very much for highlighting the fact that we still have a great deal of work to do, to “transform tolerance into equality.” Last Thursday night’s QT from Brighton was a shocker with 2 local women (members of the audience) choosing to speak passionately against allowing homosexual citizens to marry and being applauded by perhaps 20 or so members of the Brighton audience. We have a long way yet to go. And the BBC’s poll revealing that 1 in 5 Britons have said they would refuse an invitation to the wedding of two homosexual people was also a shocker.

Thanks, Caroline, for all the work you’ve done for LGBTs. It’s so much appreciated.

  • Trans people are still not covered by the act. Read more here:

There is some big problems with SOME members of the UK population.

I mean these Muslim patrols, “gay free zones” for starts. People like Stephen Green, the UKIPPERS etc.
