TOWIE’s Bobby Norris speaks out about ‘awful’ homophobic abuse as a teenager
TOWIE star Bobby Norris has spoken out about the “awful” homophobic abuse he suffered when he was a teenager.
The television personality told Star Magazine that he had been at the receiving end of homophobic bullying throughout school.
He said: “It was awful. I’d walk through the corridor and all I would head was ‘batty boy’ or ‘poof’. I was being told being gay wasn’t OK and wasn’t normal.”
Norris said the homophobic abuse got worse when he denied being gay, but when he came out, the bullying subsided.
“In the end, I faced it when I was 15. It was just a normal day in class and I’d hear the same silly questions, ‘Are you gay? Do you fancy boys?’ I’d be like, ‘No, no!’ But that day I said ‘Yeah.’ I could have been strung up on the football post but the moment I stopped denying it, they backed down.”
The 27-year-old also said he was getting used to the idea of becoming a father via surrogate Gemma, 33.
He said: “It means so much to me as she’s my closest friend… “When you have a support network around you, you can’t ask for more. It’s like somebody is fighting my corner and it makes me physically stronger.”
