Elton John: There is light at the end of the tunnel on HIV

A real HELPER he is !

I would love to totally agree with Sir Elton John. But stigma will not end until communities actually work together, for example LGBTQ communities working closely with BME communities, young people’s groups working with older generations and so on and so forth. In addition empire building charities should also remember who and what they started, particularly HIV charities.

I remember when I was diagnosed and people including myself was in fear of others knowing my status – the affected communities came together to help support people like me (living with HIV). Now more and more people living with HIV are standing up and speaking out about living with HIV and enabling, empowering and encouraging the wider population to accept us and HIV is not only our issues but everyone’s issue.

But my reason for responding to this article is stigma will not see any light until we all accept and understand people living with HIV are all individuals having to deal with our own demons and problems that other people force onto us. And we all need to communicate with each other black and white, gay and straight, young and old just to mention a few. We are all equal aren’t we?

Nicely put and yes we are all equal. I know many people living with HIV, for me it’s a non issue.

    Well done yet again Elton
