Anti-bullying group gets funds from My Little Pony tattoos following 11-year-old’s attempted suicide

  • Erica Cook

Um, slight misunderstanding. My little pony is not a gay TV show. It is a show for girls. I don’t know if you have these over there. They are little toy ponies that are all sorts of fanciful things girls like. The gay connotation comes from the notion that only gay boys would like things meant for girls. The reason why he liked the show was because he had ADHD and Pinky pie is known for being very hyperactive and having a short attention span. As a person with a learning disability I know how hard it is to try and find role modals you can look up to who’s lives look in some way like your own. As the LGBT issues become more and more seen there are still groups out there who don’t see anyone they can relate to. People with disabilities that effect learning are one of them.

This is a major problem with the toy industry – why does My Little Pony need to be a girls toy? Why can’t it just be a toy?

By embedding this type of attitude into kids that these toys are for boys and these are for girls means that this type of bullying will continue.

There is a big campaign going on saying toys should be unisex, and we should allow kids to play with whatever toys they like. It doesn’t mean that a boy playing with a Barbie toy is going to be gay. It’s just a preference at that time.

Gay was in quotes. The writer wasn’t calling the show gay. Thats probably what the kids who picked on him called the show. Furthermore, My Little Pony is NOT a show for girls. It is a show for anyone who chooses to watch it! Thats whats wrong with society.
