Will you go #gayforsochi to support LGBT Russians?

A new site has launched which allows users to go ‘#gayforsochi’, by creating a profile picture featuring pink Olympic Rings.

The Sochi Winter Olympics are currently taking place in Russia, where president Vladimir Putin signed a law last June banning the promotion of “non-traditional sexual relationships” to minors, causing an international outcry.

The site, gayforsochi, is a collaboration between House of Turing and GAYLETTER, and allows users to upload and crop a photograph, whilst adding the rings, and turning the photo black and white.

It allows users to tag and share the photo, and download, in order to show support for LGBT Russians. It encourages users to use the hashtag ‘#gayforsochi’ when sharing their images.

Since the games started, an openly bisexual Dutch speed skater who won gold has said she “got a cuddle” from Russian President Vladimir Putin after her win.
