A Bishop in the US state of Illinois has said that gay people who wish to get married should be treated like naughty children and “disciplined”.

Bishop Thomas John Paprocki, who previously held a mass “exorcism” following the legalisation of same-sex marriage in the state, has said that for participating in the “redefinition of marriage”, gay couples should be “disciplined.”

“To be opposed to the redefinition of marriage and to be opposed to things that are sinful, that’s actually a very loving thing,” he said in an interview with Life Site News.

“Perhaps it’s the permissiveness of our society that people think that if you don’t get what you want that you’re somehow being hateful, if you don’t give them what they want. But sometimes, like any good parent will tell you, that sometimes you have to discipline your child, sometimes you have to say no. And sometimes, you even have to punish.”

Bishop Paprocki went on to claim that in punishing children, parents are showing love towards them.

Earlier in 2013, before the “exorcism”, Bishop Paprocki was involved in the case of an Illinois priest who got stuck in a pair of handcuffs and insisted it was a “non-sexual” event brought on by “stress.”

Mr Paprocki released a statement which read: “On December 8th, I met with Father Donovan and Monsignor Carl Kemme, my Vicar General, in my office at the Catholic Pastoral Center.

“Father Donovan said that he was mortified by what happened and acknowledged that the information that had been reported to me was basically accurate. He insisted that he had been alone the whole time of this incident and denied that there was any sexual component to this.”
