What this 4-year-old told the Australian PM about same-sex marriage will warm your heart

A four-year-old girl has written a letter to Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, asking him to “let boys marry boys and girls marry girls.”

Sabrina Franco, from western Sydney, wrote the letter on Disney princess paper after finding out her mother’s gay friends had to go to New York to get married, as same-sex marriage is not recognised in Australia.

She also asked him not to “get rid of” ABC, the country’s national broadcaster, by cutting its funding.

The letter reads:
“Dear Tony Abbott, don’t get rid of the ABC because we love it. And let boys marry boys and girls marry girls if they love each other or they’ll be sad forever. Thank you, Sabrina”

Lukas Picton and Greg Stone, the gay couple, were touched by Sabrina’s decision to take matters into her own hands.

Mr Picton said: “This letter really shows that prejudice and discrimination are engrained traits that we teach our children and that acceptance and understanding of equal love comes naturally to them.”

Tony Abbott has not yet responded to the letter.

Same-sex marriage was briefly legalised in Australian Capital Territory last month, but Australia’s high court overturned the decision just five days later.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott remains an opponent of same-sex marriage, but polls have found up to 65% of Australians support it, with just 28% opposed.

Mr Abbott’s sister proposed to her lesbian partner last October, though Mr Abbott said that he “could never support the marriage”.
