  1. Just a quick question, how on earth are Ukip homophobic when they are for civil partnerships? It doesn’t even make sense.

    1. Well, they oppose the same sex marriage bill because of ‘religious freedom’, despite the fact that it’s very clear that no religious organization would be forced to perform the marriages and there are protections to stop that from happening, not to mention the religious freedom of religious organizations that do want to marry same sex couples. Whilst there are definitely homophobes in the party, I can’t say whether the party itself is inherently homophobic, but I don’t think you can blame people for getting that impression when they have presented no valid reason for opposing equal marriage.

    2. It’s the ‘seperate but equal’ myth. We don’t need marriage equality because we have civil partnerships and they are ‘like’ marriage. Then you have to ask why we can’t have marriage if that’s the case. Then you start hearing about marriage being between a man and a woman for the purpose of creating and raising kids etc etc etc and the real homophobia flows faster than a swollen river that’s caused by rain, which in turn was caused by the gays…

      1. As if you actually need a man and a woman using one specific method for creating kids! After all, with the wonders of modern technology there is more than one way for a man’s sperm to fertilise a women’s egg but homophobes aren’t up to speed with technology in general or with social developments around them.

Yes, you can’t really be ‘nearly equal’. Equality is an absolute; ie you are either equal or you are not. I have tried debating this point with some people and put the point over that a marriage certificate is a universally-understood document in all countries of the world and that is one reason why gays want to have civil marriage rights. Yes, it doesn’t take long for the homophobia to make an appearance and it all revolves around procreation. It never seems to occur to these dimwits that 90 year old grannies in nursing homes who fall in love with 90 year men in them wouldn’t be banned from marrying even though they are well past the age in which they can bear children.

    3. Well, they claim to oppose equal marriage because of ‘religious freedom’, despite the fact that the bill is very clear that no religious organization will be forced to carry out same sex marriages and there are multiple protections against that. It’s the same as divorcees; a priest is perfectly entitled to refuse to marry somebody who has been married and divorced on the grounds of their religious beliefs. Not to mention that they don’t seem too bothered about religious freedom when it comes to groups like Quakers, Liberal Jews and Unitarian Christians who all want to be able to marry same sex couples. Can you blame people for thinking they are homophobic when they have presented no valid reason for opposing equal marriage?

      1. I think UKIP oppose it really as a means of getting some Margaret Thatcher-loving ‘old school’ Tories on board as they recognise that due to their embrace of ultra-liberal economic policies the only group of people who would readily join their party and become activists are those type of Tories. It is simply a political tactic on their part and a way of positioning themselves to attract these kind of people. Needless to say, this is working for them in the short term but in the long term it will harm them I suspect.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

  2. How can it be a gay anthem when our blatantly ignores lesbians? I’d be crying if it started to rain men. How very radical of the people. Very well then, you gay men have your fun with “It’s Raining Men” and I’ll just go on living in a world that pretends that I don’t exist.

Paul Jabara wrote it. He also wrote “Last Dance”, and “No More Tears (Enough is Enough), among many others. He was a gay man. There is nothing stopping you from writing a song – in fact, the str8 male community would go crazy for it! But be careful; it might be deemed objectifying and misogynistic, as the hundreds of songs recorded by rock and rap singers about desiring women are. Odd how “Hot Stuff”, “Manhunt”, and “Holding Out For A Hero” aren’t protested as being objectifying of men…

Here’s a song: “High School Confidential”, recorded by out lesbian Carole Pope when she was with Rough Trade.

  3. What a fantastic idea! It’s a great and very catchy song anyway but to see it at the top of the charts (hopefully) or even in the charts at all would be a brilliant rebuke to the remaining homophobes and biphobes in our society, especially the ultra-loony ‘Christian’ ones like that crackpot from UKIP.

Love this and am giggling at the thought. This is when I so love British humour. I love the song, love the principle behind it as a comment on todays society and I’ll buy a copy.

Can you send some of that man rain my way please ;)…..lol

    1. British sarcastic humour is one of the things that make most proud to be British! I don’t think any other nation in the world does this kind of humour on the level we do it!
