A Representative in the US state of Oklahoma has said homosexuality is not a civil right but “a human wrong”, and that it is a lie to say people are born gay.

Sally Kern, who has in the past made shocking statements on homosexuality, once calling it “the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam.”

Speaking on KOTV on Wednesday, she said: “Homosexuals are saying, ‘this is who we are. This is how we’re born.’ You tell a lie long enough, people start to believe it.”

She also said: “Homosexuality is not a civil right, it’s a human wrong.”

US District Judge Terence Kern on Tuesday ruled that the state’s ban on same-sex couples marrying violated the US Constitution.

The Representative was also joined by members of Oklahoma’s congressional delegation who criticised the decision by Judge Kern.

US Represenative James Lankford said the ruling is an example of “why the American people are so frustrated with government and government officials; the people speak clearly but elected officials and judges ignore them.”

In 2008, Mrs Kern was secretly recorded giving a speech where she said that homosexuality is “deadly and it’s spreading, and it will destroy our young people. It will destroy this nation. Studies show that no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than, you know, a few decades.”

She became a nationally lampooned figure after lesbian chat-show host Ellen DeGeneres left her a voice mail and broadcast it on her television programme.
