Mr. Jonathan has chosen to pander to pressure from religious zealots in his country. Unfortunately for him there will now be international pressure again on him to face prosecution for his crimes against humanity at the ICC. P.S.: good luck!

Several things now need to happen.

    1. The UN needs to formulate a system of sanctions on any nation that abuses the Human Rights of free citizens under religious or political insanity.

    2. Governments need to form a new group expressly interested in the Human Rights of all citizens, with charities involved, to discover ways to punish those responsible under international law and further the implementation of equality laws.

    3. Leaders who fail to ensure the safety of citizens against persecution by religious or political groups have to be held accountable. Arrest warrants should be issued immediately ordering the detention on sight of any leader who fails to prevent such abuses, or those who facilitate the abuse of their own citizens.

It’s about time the international community started taking real and concrete action against these despots and religious freaks. The moment someone harms another based on gender, race, sexuality, disability and so on, arrest warrants should be issued.

We hereby punish you for not procreating in a nation/continent/planet where the vast majority are already living in squalor and starving. Our religion trumps common sense. Here is a black shirt with which to cover up your lash scars.

Why are we sending money to Nigeria?

So much for the bogus notion that Islam is peaceful. Not one other Islamic nation condemns it and nor do any mainstream denominations in the west.

    1. Religion is being exposed yet again as the camouflage for hate that it is.

    2. That There Other David 17 Jan, 11:59am

All three of the Abrahamaic religions bring out the worst in humanity. If you read the Bible or Quran it’s easy to see why. The message, delivered of course only to one person lording it over everyone else, is obey or be smited. Judaism and Islam will smite you there and then, Christianity (or Paulism as it really ought to be called) will smite you for eternity after your death.

They are formulated from jealousy, power and greed, the worst of human emotions. All three are harmful to this planet and all three should be rejected and fought against wherever their influence has taken root.

  6. It looks as if these people and of course their evangelical backers are determined to vindicate the “New atheists”. Of course being caught up in the heady mix of superstition and hate they won’t be able to see that, and they will forget the world is watching and seeing how pitiful and disgraceful they are. Before too many years pass they will be viewed with the same incredulity and disgust that the burners of old women as witches are now viewed. In the longer term this is a bad day for religion.

  7. Nigeria – The Barbarian State

Exactly what I was thinking and should be the headline in every forward thinking media output on this planet.

  8. Stop ALL aid to this country immediately.

I don’t want to hear those Tories expressing ‘concern’ about Nigerian fascism.

I want confirmation that not a single penny of British money goes to this place.

98% of Nigeria supports this barbarism. We have zero responsibility towards this place.

I’ll wager that the perverts doing the whipping all got excited over doling out the punishment. And then went home and relieved their tensions with the first goat they caught.

  10. George Broahead 17 Jan, 3:57pm

This is also the barbaric punishment meted out to gays in Islamic theocracies like Saudi Arabia. Yet the UK and other democracies ignore it for fear of causing offence and being accused of Islamophobia.

    1. Geoffrey Marsh 21 Jan, 6:52pm

More likely the UK ignores it because it fears losing access to their oil.
