Chester man due in court next week over manslaughter of gay grandfather Ronald Hayes

A 26-year-old man will appear in court next week charged with the manslaughter of a gay man in Chester.

Ronald Hayes from Morpeth died following an incident outside The Liverpool Arms gay bar in Northgate Street, Chester, on Saturday 23 November.

Kevin Gardner, 26, of Westminster Road, Ellesmere Port, was charged with manslaughter on 23 December and made his first appearance at Chester Magistrates’ Court earlier this month.

Mr Gardner is due to appear at Chester Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday 21 January.

Another 26-year-old man, who was previously arrested in connection with the investigation, has been released from police bail without charge.

Mr Hayes, a grandfather, died in hospital on Monday 25 November after life support was removed.
