A woman in the US state of California is seeking to stop a gay couple from being allowed to marry in an annual New Year parade this week.

Karen Grube is calling for a full boycott of the New Year’s Day Rose Parade, should the couple be allowed to marry.

The couple, Danny Leclair and Aubrey Loots, are planning to marry atop the AIDS Healthcare Foundation float, which is to be shaped as a cake.

The wedding will be the first in the historic parade, which has been running for 125 years.

Grube has other plans, however, as she has started a one-woman campaign to have the parade boycotted, and its funding cut. She even set up a Facebook page to boycott the parade.

California currently allows same-sex marriage.

“Gay marriage is illegal in over 30 states, why would they promote something that is blatantly illegal? That’s just stupid,” Grube told Breibart.com.

She did go on to claim that she would be opposed to any wedding taking place, not just one between a same-sex couple.

The couple, who are set to say their vows on TV in front of millions, have been together for twelve years.

Mr Leclaire, who described the campaign to boycott the parade “heinous”, said: ”There’s a lot of people who think we’re doing this as a political statement. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Our stance is love is love and love will save lives.”

Breitbart also reported that parade organisers said they were happy for the wedding to go ahead, and that they comended the AIDS Healthcare Foundation for its work on the event.

Back in June, the US Supreme Court struck down California’s 2008 ban on same-sex marriages, Proposition 8, allowing marriages to continue almost immediately.
